“Through some strange form of mind chemistry with which science is not familiar, those who literally live by the Golden Rule, and know why they live by it, thereby create the mental attitude so essential to attract the desirable things of life.”
~Napoleon Hill

On April 23rd and 24th, I attended the Napoleon Hill Foundation Gala at Moonstone Manor in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania where many of the Napoleon Hill Foundation and Napoleon Hill World Learning Center friends and supporters gathered for our fundraising event.

Yes, the Napoleon Hill principles of success have brought the world closer together. While we have prepared thousands of contracts with over 250 foreign publishers, it is always a warm feeling to meet our friends in person.

We had guests from many states, but were also very pleased that Mr. Kim and Sanghoon came from Korea. This father-son team has effectively licensed our material in Korea.

Jim Mitchell and his wife Apple, both of whom are Napoleon Hill certified instructors were also in attendance. They split their time between the U.S. and Thailand, Apple’s native country.

David Ibarra and Elena Ureña were in attendance and it was my pleasure to meet them for the first time. David is on his way to become a certified instructor. David has demonstrated his knowledge of the principles of success as he applies them in his thriving business. David and Elena split their time between homes in Utah and her native Costa Rica.

One of Napoleon Hill’s relatives graciously offered to host the next Napoleon Hill Foundation Gala sometime in the near future. I extend a warm thank you to all of you who took the time to attend our Gala.

The best to you at whatever you do!

Vintage Essays By Judy Williamson, Director of the Napoleon Hill World Learning Center at Purdue University Calumnet

“He is the richest man who enriches his country most; in whom the people feel richest and proudest; who gives himself with his money, who opens the doors of opportunity widest to those around him; who is ears to the deaf, eyes to the blind and feet to the lame. Such a man makes every acre of land in his community worth more, and makes richer every man who lives near him.”
~ Orison Swett Marden

Dear Readers:

Balance is important in our lives. Dedicating too much time to one area such as work and neglecting other areas such as play, love, and worship causes us off to be off-center. When this happens for prolonged periods of time illness can enter our lives and derail our best intentions and future planning.

Like everything else, our body is a system that works best when in alignment. Too much deviation one way or the other causes stress on the neglected systems. Generally, the response is maladjustment. When one becomes ill, the treatment is never to do more of the same, but rather the question is raised as to what can be done differently in order to regain balance. When overwork is the problem, more work is never the solution.

So, what type of tune-up might a person need? Usually, just the opposite of what you are doing can work wonders. If you are an indoor person, venture outside. If you read books, consider taking in a play or a concert. If you eat fast foods, try fine dining. If you are a faultfinder, decide to withhold judgment. If you frown, smile. If you drive, walk. If you shower, bathe. You get the idea. Be open to new and creative opportunities that aid you in exploring what might reinvigorate a lopsided lifestyle.

It is well known that we are all creatures of habit, but when habits go from being cobwebs to cables then we have to lessen their grip. How often do you find yourself saying, “I don’t like this,” or “I can’t do that.” The reality is that it is “won’t, not can’t” and you are making the choice yourself.

Quickly make a list of ten items you can’t do, such as, “I can’t lose weight, I can’t fly an airplane, I can’t clean my house, I can’t finish my college degree, I can’t be on time, I can’t make my children behave, I can’t visit a foreign country, I can’t eat spinach, I can’t be an early bird, and I can’t make friends.” Stop now. Read your list out loud. Feel all your hard earned inadequacies. Wallow in the moment. Next, change one habit and instead of saying “can’t” substitute “won’t” in your list. Read this modified list out loud. I know you will sense the difference immediately and move yourself from pity to power because you know without a doubt that you have the ability to choose. Choose to be the powerhouse you were made to be. Your greatest power always was and always will be your power to decide your next course of action for yourself. You are powerful beyond belief!

Be Your Very Best Always,
Judy Williamson

The Law of Success

Work, Play, Love, and Worship
by Napoleon Hill

I hope and pray that before I cross over to the other side, I will have made valuable contributions to mankind, such that individuals may find a labor of love in which to make a living and earn their way. What a grand world this would be if it weren’t for some of the people who live here. It’s not that there’s anything wrong with them, it’s just their habits that are wrong. They think wrong, and that’s what’s wrong. Let them think in terms of good health, opulence, and plenty. Let them think of fellowship and brotherhood instead of stirring race riots, setting a man against man, brother against brother, nation against nation, and thinking in terms of war instead of cooperation.

There’s plenty in this world for everybody, including the squirrels, and animals, and birds. If only some people didn’t try to get too much while trying to keep other people from getting enough through wrong thinking. I honestly don’t want any advantage or benefits of any nature that can’t be shared everywhere and with all people. I don’t want anything that I can’t share with people. I want no advantage over other people, save only the opportunity of sharing my knowledge and my ability to help them help themselves.

The famous Mayo Brothers discovered four vitally important factors that must be observed to maintain sound physical health. There must be an equal balance of the thought habits of work, play, love, and worship. Isn’t that interesting? That’s according to the great Mayo Institute where they have had thousands of people pass through their clinic. They found out that when those four things are out of kilter, the imbalance almost invariably results in some form of physical ailment.

Think and Grow Rich

by Napoleon Hill

As Executive Director of the Napoleon Hill Foundation, I receive many requests from people wanting the original 1937 copy of Think and Grow Rich. To satisfy those of you who desire to have a 1937 unedited copy, we have reproduced Napoleon Hill’s personal copy of the first edition, printed in March of 1937. The book has the notation, “not to be loaned,” and signed: Annie Lou Hill (the wife of Dr. Hill). This personal copy of Dr. Hill’s was given to me by Dr. Charles W. Johnson, Chairman of the Napoleon Hill Foundation and a nephew of Napoleon Hill. It was Napoleon Hill who sent Dr. Johnson to medical school, and today he is a practicing cardiologist. Charlie refers to Napoleon Hill as “Uncle Nap” and will often makes the statement, “Uncle Nap would be proud of the Foundation today.” The original 1937 manuscript was written and edited with the assistance of Napoleon’s wife. In later years, the existing document was again edited by Dr. Hill. For example, the Foundation owns a 1958 edition that Hill edited personally. This did not lessen the book’s value in Hill’s judgment. Hill made the editing remarks in his own handwriting and the resulting 1960 edited edition has sold over 100 million copies making it the most read self-help book of all time
