“Everybody hates a
human hog.”

~Napoleon Hill

In 2000, when I became Executive Director of the Napoleon Hill Foundation, I reviewed the Foundation’s list of publishers and noticed that there were no relationships with people that spoke the Spanish language. I knew the Hispanic population in the US was huge, and was growing fast with an estimate approaching 40 million.

In countries where Spanish is the official language like Spain, Columbia, Peru, Venezuela, etc., I saw the potential for a huge market.

Judith Williamson, director of the Napoleon Hill World Learning Center had taught Spanish, and one of her employees, Uriel “Chino” Martinez was from Mexico. Judy’s staff, Lupita Williamson Judy’s daughter-in-law, Bob Johnson our attorney and I attended a Book Fair in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Bob Johnson and I met numerous Spanish publishers and the response was outstanding. The publishers were enthusiastic about the opportunity to publish books from the Napoleon Hill Foundation. Today, the Foundation does business with over 40 different Spanish publishers.

Besides licensing books, the Foundation has made excellent sales in large volumes to such companies as Taller del Exito. One of our contacts at Taller del Exito is Mr. Diego Cruz who has been excellent to do business with. They have bought many thousands of Napoleon Hill books both in Spanish and in English. It has not been necessary to have legal contracts with them as we simply trust each other and do business on those terms.

Truly, the Napoleon Hill Foundation is helping to spread the success principles of Napoleon Hill around the world. The job that Mr. Cruz, Taller del Exito, and others are doing to teach the success principles has and continues to be a very important part of making the world a better place in which to live.

The best to you at whatever you do!

Vintage Essays By Judy Williamson, Director of the Napoleon Hill World Learning Center at Purdue University Calumnet

What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us.
What we have done for others remains and is immortal.

~ Albert Pike

Dear Readers:

This past week I personally have reflected a great deal on gratitude and how it serves us in our lives. The virtue of gratitude shapes many portions of our lives and when we are grateful for whatever good we receive and express that gratitude, it cannot be stopped from rebounding to us in various forms. Michael Telapary is a certified instructor from Amsterdam and he is mentoring an upcoming instructor, Stella Tartsinis, who is completing her certification project under his direction. This week I received some correspondence from the both of them wherein Michael explains the nature of gratitude in Dr. Hill’s teachings. I quote from their correspondence below:

Hello Stella,
I see you are working hard. Very good! Changing words is sometimes a good idea, but in many cases the words and phrases Napoleon Hill uses are of infinite value. The phrase Definite Major Purpose has great power in itself as you grow to understand the real essence of this concept. It is connected with all the other principles especially Applied Faith, Master Mind Alliance and Going the Extra Mile. It is also connected with a few major universal laws, like the Law of Attraction, the Law of Increasing Returns and the Law of Repetition. In my opinion to replace this principle by a simple word such as “goal” is killing the essence of the meaning of DMP. A DMP is built up with many in-between goals, whereas many simple goals can be achieved quickly without applying all the other principles.

Stella, this is just how I think about it, always do what you think is best, listen to your inner self and don’t believe everything you think. It is not our job to create everything around us, it is is our job to design it. Visualization is a powerful tool, but gratitude is the fuel that propels the engine of your mind directly to the ports of your subconscious. Having gratitude is the ultimate state of receivership, because by expressing gratitude it means that what we are grateful for has already happened. Your brain, subconsious mind, and Infinite Intelligence will do the rest.
Success Stella
Greetings, Michael

The above message from Michael to Stella this week is a wise expression of the understanding of Dr. Hill’s Philosophy. Michael knows that what you are grateful for both expands and rebounds like a boomerang in our lives. It is circular, cyclic, and reciprocal and mirrors the phrase “what goes around comes around.”

Finally, Napoleon Hill’s article on Patriotism below states the same message, but more explicitly. Dr. Hill states that is is wrong not to be grateful for what you are given. It does not matter whether you are an American, an Asian, a European, a Mexican, or any of the world’s nationalities that should hold loyalty to the countries wherein they live. How can you take and not give back? If you are part of the process of being a resident in any country and using the services of that country, then you need to take care of your chosen country or else the process does not work. Simply put, you are becoming a liability to your homeland if you do not respond with appropriate gratitude and then follow up with corresponding action that advances gratuitous actions. Ponder these thoughts and see if you can now realize that the virtue of gratitude is truly what makes the world spin on its axis. Without it, the world becomes a competitive place filled with hated, bigotry, racism, and many other negative thoughts that espouse the “What’s in it for me?” agenda of belief, rather than “What can I do to make a difference and help?”

Be Your Very Best Always,
Judy Williamson

The Law of Success

Patriotic Americans and All Citizens of the World
by Napoleon Hill

NOT all who wear little American flags in the lapel of their coats and take off their hats as the flag goes by, are loyal Americans.

Patriotism is something which must first be demonstrated in the human heart. It is not so much what a man does as what he actually thinks that marks him as a real or psuedo patriot.

When a man gets right in his own heart; when he feels a burning desire of appreciation of this wonderful land of freedom; when he convinces himself that this is the best country on earth, then he is ready for outward demonstration of patriotism and not before.

If you do not feel right in your heart toward America there is something wrong with either you or the country. If the country is wrong you are living in the wrong spot, so why not move to some better place? If you are wrong, the only sportsman-like thing to do is to undergo a change of heart!

If you remain here and accept the wide freedom of speech and of action which America offers, then for heaven’s sake act as any self-respecting guest would act and feel a sense of appreciation. If you cannot feel this sense of appreciation, then do exactly that which an honorable guest ought to do; namely, pack your grip and move on.

No one can play a traitorous part and retain his self-respect at the same time. You have a right to be here; you have a right to every privilege which America offers: you have a right to enjoy the wonderful opportunities to accumulate personal fortune which America enjoys, providing, always, that you conduct yourself as a patriotic American should.

Do not bite the hand that feeds you.

If this country is giving you a good living and its laws are providing you with absolute freedom to go and come as you like then the least you can possibly do in return is to feel kindly toward the country and respect its customs and its laws. This is all that is expected of those who enjoy the privileges which America offers.

Think and Grow Rich

by Napoleon Hill

As Executive Director of the Napoleon Hill Foundation, I receive many requests from people wanting the original 1937 copy of Think and Grow Rich. To satisfy those of you who desire to have a 1937 unedited copy, we have reproduced Napoleon Hill’s personal copy of the first edition, printed in March of 1937. The book has the notation, “not to be loaned,” and signed: Annie Lou Hill (the wife of Dr. Hill). This personal copy of Dr. Hill’s was given to me by Dr. Charles W. Johnson, Chairman of the Napoleon Hill Foundation and a nephew of Napoleon Hill. It was Napoleon Hill who sent Dr. Johnson to medical school, and today he is a practicing cardiologist. Charlie refers to Napoleon Hill as “Uncle Nap” and will often makes the statement, “Uncle Nap would be proud of the Foundation today.” The original 1937 manuscript was written and edited with the assistance of Napoleon’s wife. In later years, the existing document was again edited by Dr. Hill. For example, the Foundation owns a 1958 edition that Hill edited personally. This did not lessen the book’s value in Hill’s judgment. Hill made the editing remarks in his own handwriting and the resulting 1960 edited edition has sold over 100 million copies making it the most read self-help book of all time
