“Giving begets receiving; there is a to-and-fro passage of wealth which may not reflect itself in a swollen bank account, but does reflect itself in a mind which has known such wealth. In this lies happiness, peace and health which a man merely rich in money may never know.”
~Napoleon Hill

Napoleon Hill Around the World

Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill has been published since 1937 all over the world.

I am often asked how many copies have been printed. It is only a guess, but at best it is probably in excess of 100 million copies. Many countries either had no copyright laws or the laws were not enforced so it is difficult to ascertain an accurate number.

The Napoleon Hill Foundation does know what the sales have been in the United States. The Napoleon Hill Foundation publishes three different copies of Think and Grow Rich which are the pocket size and trade size editions published by Penguin/Random House and the 1937 Think and Grow Rich which is an exact copy of Napoleon Hill’s personal copy and is shown on our website www.naphill.org and on Amazon. The Foundation receives royalties from these authorized editions which permit us to award scholarships, do prison work, seminars, and to teach the principles of success all over the world.

The Napoleon Hill Foundation deeply appreciates you buying books that show the official copyright of the Napoleon Hill Foundation.

I wish you the best at whatever you do!

Vintage Essays By Judy Williamson, Director of the Napoleon Hill World Learning Center at Purdue University Calumnet

“In bestowing charity, the main consideration should be to help those who will help themselves; to provide part of the means by which those who desire to improve may do so; to give those who desire to use the aids by which they may rise; to assist, but rarely or never to do all.  Neither the individual nor the race is improved by almsgiving.
~ Andrew Carnegie

Dear Readers:

Many times a person is unsure of what direction to take in life. Operation manuals, study guides, directories, courses, how-to-do it books, and other self-improvement strategies can point us in a direction, but ultimately the choice is up to us. Dr. Napoleon Hill’s goal in life was to create a philosophy of success that everyone could benefit from if applied. His PMA: Science of Success Course is the ultimate testimony to the dedicated fulfillment of his life’s mission.

As many know, the life, writings, and works of Andrew Carnegie influenced Dr. Hill greatly, and young Napoleon derived many lessons from studying the world’s richest man at the time. Due to his philosophy on wealth distribution, Carnegie is considered to be one of the foundational leaders in the field of philanthropy today. Carnegie’s essay, “The Gospel of Wealth,” clearly states his viewpoint on the distribution of wealth prior to death. It is a testimony to the life of this noteworthy man that he did exactly what he was advocating and gave most of his wealth back to the masses with the endowment of small town libraries across the United States, among other gifts focused on education in the United States and Scotland.

To Carnegie, the treasures of the world were available to all in the form of books. By reading, a person could open his mind to a greater world. By learning from what has gone before, Carnegie states: “The poor enjoy what the rich could not before afford. What were the luxuries have become the necessaries of life. The laborer has now more comforts than the landlord had a few generations ago.”

In keeping with the mission of the Foundation, to make this world a better place in which to live for this and future generations, we look to the past in order to learn how to improve the future. Dr. Hill’s success philosophy is a practical guide to living a worthy life for both ourselves and others.

Recently, I read a traditional Pueblo Indian Blessing. I would like to share it with you. It reminds me of what our true focus – our true North – should be in life. Here’s hoping that you find both meaning and blessing in it for yourself too.

Traditional Pueblo Blessing

Hold onto what is good
Even if it is a handful of earth.

Hold onto what you believe
Even if it is a tree that stands by itself.

Hold onto what you must do
Even if it is a long way from here.

Hold onto life
Even if it seems easier to let go.

Hold onto my hand
Even if I have gone away from you.

Be Your Very Best Always,
Judy Williamson

The Law of Success

Andrew Carnegie – A Man of Distinction
by Napoleon Hill

“The way of success is the way of action, based upon organized thinking. Action – action – action and still more action! There must be action to make a start; action to impel the individual to keep on going; and action directed to make a new start if one is overtaken by temporary defeat. And let us remember that constructive action must be based on a positive mental attitude.

“Mental attitude represents the sum total of one’s emotional feelings at any given time, and it may be controlled by self-discipline. Thus, the individual has the choice of expressing either his negative emotions or his positive emotions. Mental attitude is controlled by established habits based upon definite motives, and those habits may represent the highest type of organized thinking.

“The story of all human progress boils itself down to just that. You might state the case clearly by saying that all human achievement begins in thought but ends in work! And work becomes a pleasure or a hardship, according to the nature of the motive which inspires it and the mental attitude in which it is performed.

“Therefore, it is important that a man build his definite major purpose on as many of the ten basic motives as possible, in order that his purpose may become obsessional and thus easily and pleasantly pursued through action.”

Here we have quoted the views of one of the greatest industrialists this nation has ever produced. He was not only a great industrialist, but a philosopher, an able psychologist, distinguished throughout the world as a man who had a keen insight into the character of men. He was also a great philanthropist. He provided that the major portion of his material riches be given back to the people of America in ways designed to profit the greatest number. The Carnegie libraries, for example, are a result of this philanthropy.

Napoleon Hill’s Greatest Speeches

from the Archives of Napoleon Hill

We are pleased to present this never before published collection from the one and only, Napoleon Hill.

Along with other never before published material, this volume includes the speech that inspired the worldwide bestseller Think and Grow Rich.

With a foreword by Napoleon’s grandson, Dr. J.B. Hill, and introductory comments by Don Green, Director of The Napoleon Hill Foundation, personal letters from family members and Senator Jennings Randolph, this fascinating exploration of the speeches given by the pioneer of the personal development movement is packed with a wealth of information.

It is a revealing look at one man’s quest for understanding why some men succeed, why others do not, and what makes success something that can be replicated.

This collection will provide you with some of Napoleon’s finest speeches including:

-What I Have Learned From Analyzing 10,000 People
-The Man Who Has Had no Chance
-The Commencement Address at Salem College in Salem, West Virginia, 1922—likely his best-remembered and most-influential speech.

Napoleon Hill dedicated much of his life to solving what he called “the most stupendous problem confronting the human race today.” That is, “How can I get what I want?”

As W. Clement Stone and thousands of others can attest, Hill succeeded in this venture, and we now have a success philosophy that Andrew Carnegie once saw as a possibility.

The pages within this book will tell you of the origins of a personal development legacy.

Think and Grow Rich

by Napoleon Hill

As Executive Director of the Napoleon Hill Foundation, I receive many requests from people wanting the original 1937 copy of Think and Grow Rich. To satisfy those of you who desire to have a 1937 unedited copy, we have reproduced Napoleon Hill’s personal copy of the first edition, printed in March of 1937. The book has the notation, “not to be loaned,” and signed: Annie Lou Hill (the wife of Dr. Hill). This personal copy of Dr. Hill’s was given to me by Dr. Charles W. Johnson, Chairman of the Napoleon Hill Foundation and a nephew of Napoleon Hill. It was Napoleon Hill who sent Dr. Johnson to medical school, and today he is a practicing cardiologist. Charlie refers to Napoleon Hill as “Uncle Nap” and will often makes the statement, “Uncle Nap would be proud of the Foundation today.” The original 1937 manuscript was written and edited with the assistance of Napoleon’s wife. In later years, the existing document was again edited by Dr. Hill. For example, the Foundation owns a 1958 edition that Hill edited personally. This did not lessen the book’s value in Hill’s judgment. Hill made the editing remarks in his own handwriting and the resulting 1960 edited edition has sold over 100 million copies making it the most read self-help book of all time
