“The North Star was not more fixed in the heavens than Caesar in his purpose. History is rich in the recital of men who have hitched their wagon to a star–a single star–and ridden it into the heights of great achievement.”
~Napoleon Hill

A visitor to the Napoleon Hill office, located on the campus of the University of Virginia’s College at Wise, offers further proof that Napoleon Hill’s influence around the world continues to grow. Dr. Sinisa is a Napoleon Hill advocate who would like to teach the success principles to the people of Macedonia.

Macedonia is a small, landlocked country with a little over two million citizens. It is located in western Europe and has borders with Kosovo, Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece, and Albania. Macedonia has a rich history and was ruled by Alexander the Great from 356 to 325 B.C. and is the oldest surviving name of a country in Europe.

Old Macedonia flourished as it was settled between 7000 and 3500 B.C., according to archaeological evidence.

The New Testament tells of the apostle Paul’s travels to Macedonia shortly after Christ’s death and his return there later. Paul was the first Christian minister to visit and today, 65% of the citizens follow the Christian faith.

Macedonia is a democratic republic with a agricultural, service, and manufacturing economy.

I wish you the best at whatever you do!

Vintage Essays By Judy Williamson, Director of the Napoleon Hill World Learning Center at Purdue University Calumnet

“If we are imprisoned in ourselves, books provide us the means of escape. If we have run too far away from ourselves, books show us the way back. ~Holbrook Jackson

Dear Readers:

Every one of us can be positively motivated by reading good material. Whenever we might feel overwhelmed or burdened beyond belief, it is a good practice to read something that can make us feel the very opposite — blessed beyond belief. In other words, even though we may feel that our lot in life is unfair or presenting excessive challenges, reading someone else’s incredibly challenging life experiences may redirect us to reflect on the true extent of our personal worries and setbacks.

Two books that I recommend for helping a person put life into a more balanced perspective are The Diving Bell and the Butterfly by Jean-Dominique Bauby and Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl. The experiences reported in these two classic works cause us to wake up each morning, count our blessings, and thank God for the good life that we have right now. By hearing another’s story and reading about the hardships they faced, we come to realize that “there but for the grace of God go I.” This wake up call causes us to vicariously experience life in another person’s shoes. The lessons displayed in another’s story enable us to view our personal worries and drama from a different perspective.

Human persistence and personal initiative are two qualities that separate the winners from the whiners. Personal discipline coupled with taking action are not easy and harder than doing nothing at all. Because people are prone to take the easy path and complain about little bumps in the road, many expect life to be a walk in the park. However, the reality is that life is often a walk through Dante’s Inferno and only the strong make contributions and endure to tell about it.

By reading biographies and stories about those who experienced the hellacious side of life but found meaning in it, we as readers can be strengthened beyond our normal potential and strive to reach excellence too. Deciding to suck it up and perform to the best of our capabilities are the real traits of a winner. Reading extraordinary biographies and non-fiction works help us measure where we are in our own process. As Napoleon Hill says, by having a pacemaker that travels before us, not only do we have a behavioral model, but also an inspiration for our own journey through life. Select your pacemakers with much consideration. Do not make the mistake of worshipping false heroes and half-way through life determine that you were walking the wrong path. Rather, look for those individuals who inspire you to emulate them and carry on their legacy of success fueled by positive action.

Be Your Very Best Always,
Judy Williamson

The Law of Success

Choose Your Pacemaker Wisely
by Napoleon Hill

Choose as your pacemaker some prosperous, self-reliant person who is obviously successful. Make up your mind not only to catch up with him, but to excel him; but do this silently, without mentioning to anyone what you’re doing.

A number of years ago, while teaching a class down in Long Beach, California, the value of a pacemaker was brought out in a very vivid lesson. It was one of those terrifically foggy nights, when you could not tell where you were except in relation to the white lines painted on the highway. The lights of the car did not penetrate very far and one had to creep along. A car was found that was equipped with fog lights and two high candlepower spotlights which could light up the white lines for a considerable distance. This extra lighting enabled the pacemaker to travel at near normal speed. We took advantage of his trail breaking and drove along behind him. It was evident that if he encountered any obstacles, he would give sufficient warning so that we could stop and avoid trouble.

So it is in life. If you pick out a man who is traveling the same road you have chosen, he will light up the pitfalls for you, and thereby you may avoid some of them. Remember to carry your share of the load, however, and when you have passed your first pacemaker, assume the role for someone else.

When you select a pacemaker, be sure to choose one who keeps moving at the same speed, or faster, than you yourself wish to travel. If he slows down too much, or turns off on a side road, you had better switch to another trail blazer.

Seeds of Gratitude
by Loretta Levin

The topic of gratitude is seen in many articles everywhere today as we are all looking for a healthier and more peaceful way of life. It is true that when we encounter a person who exhibits a high sense of gratitude they possess a joyful and a positive attitude filled with enthusiasm, which is contagious. We prefer to be around a person who has these traits because they add value and enjoyment to our day. The heart of gratitude is more precious than gold, consider it priceless.

Nature has a heart of gratitude and we can certainly learn from her. I was taught a valuable lesson this year from my visit to a local orchard in Northwest Indiana. I enjoy visiting this particular orchard as it has a very large field with sunflowers. On my last visit to the orchard, I was anticipating to see the bold golden yellow sunflowers which stand strong and tall. I arrived at the end of summer, but I was still hopeful that the flowers would be present. As I took the wagon ride that is offered for the visitors desiring to see the fields of pumpkins, corn and sunflowers, I came to the sunflower field and was surprised when I looked over the field. The sunflowers were now seedless and bowed over after a full summer of facing the sun and feeding many insects, birds, butterflies, and bumblebees.

My first impression was that I had arrived too late. However, I took another look with a new perspective and quickly realized I had arrived right on time. I learned a valuable lesson on gratitude, giving, and humility.

The sunflower is a flower so many enjoy for many reasons. I enjoy this particular flower as it brightens up my day and home. By having these flowers on display, they add a bit of sunshine indoors and seems to have their own smile. Their stalks are also used to make garden trellises and the sunflower also produces oil from its seeds which are used for cooking. Another fact you may not be aware of, the flower has an added benefit as it is used to make paint and cosmetics. This flower is truly a giver of many rich resources. We can say the sunflower has much to give indeed!

Napoleon Hill Is on the Air!: The Five Foundations for Success

by Napoleon Hill

In 1953, at the pinnacle of his career, beloved motivational speaker Napoleon Hill—whose classic Think and Grow Rich continues to inspire millions—distilled his lifetime work into a series of live radio broadcasts. In each one, Hill walked his listeners through one of the Five Foundations for Success—what he described as absolute musts connected to “practically all achievement that’s worth mentioning.”

Napoleon Hill Is on the Air! comprises those never-before-published transcripts in an engaging Q&A format. Together they provide deep analysis of the “Big Five” principles and how to apply them for maximum benefit in business and relationships. The transcripts also offer rich, off-the-cuff insights and inspirational stories derived from Hill’s years spent studying American icons, including Henry Ford, Andrew Carnegie, Thomas Edison, Charles M. Schwab, and President Franklin D. Roosevelt. This remarkable book offers a unique perspective on Napoleon Hill’s groundbreaking principles of success—as practical and powerful today as when he first discovered them.

The Foundation has partnered with the Grand Harbor Press Division of Amazon to publish a number of previously unpublished radio and television broadcasts by Napoleon Hill. Called the “Napoleon Hill is On The Air” series, the first of the books is “The Five Foundations for Success.” It will be published on March 14 and is available for pre-order now on Amazon. It consists of radio broadcasts made by Dr. Hill in Jackson, Mississippi in 1953. In these broadcasts, he concentrated on what he considered to be the “Big 5” of his seventeen success principles. This powerful book also contains an introduction by Dr. Charles Johnson, Dr. Hill’s nephew, which is the only public pronouncement about his uncle that Dr. Johnson has ever made.

The Other Side of the Mind

by W. Clement Stone and Norma Lee Browning

The human mind today is undergoing the most exciting and intensive probing in the history of mankind. In this unusual and provocative book, W. Clement Stone, a hard-headed businessman, and Norma Lee Browning, a top reporter, combine forces to explore The Other Side of the Mind – the fascinating, often controversial world of mind phenomena. “Enough is known today about the capabilities of the brain to provide science with its greatest challenge,” writes Norma Lee Browning. “It is now evident that we are only scratching the surface of human potentialities. When the curtain of mystery is lifted from the last unexplored corner of the mind, there will be no limits to what the future may hold for shaping the destiny of mankind.” Here also is a bold challenge to each reader – a challenge to keep an open mind as you read about: -The strange psychic life of the Australian Aborigines. -The mystery of the fire-walkers of the Fiji Islands. -The yogis of India, who may hold the key which scientists everywhere are looking for to unlock the hidden reservoirs of human efficiency and energy. -The startling and significant research into mental telepathy that is being done by Soviet scientists of the highest caliber. -Extra-sensory perception and what the future holds for para-psychology. -The researches into hypnosis, cybernetics and ESB – electrical stimulation of the brain. -Lourdes, for whose cures medical science has no explanation. -The sensitives of mediums who claim to have special psychic powers and the honest appearing charlatans who prey upon the gullible. -How you can relate the facts in this book to your own life to develop and maintain your physical, mental, and moral well-being.

Think and Grow Rich

by Napoleon Hill

As Executive Director of the Napoleon Hill Foundation, I receive many requests from people wanting the original 1937 copy of Think and Grow Rich. To satisfy those of you who desire to have a 1937 unedited copy, we have reproduced Napoleon Hill’s personal copy of the first edition, printed in March of 1937. The book has the notation, “not to be loaned,” and signed: Annie Lou Hill (the wife of Dr. Hill). This personal copy of Dr. Hill’s was given to me by Dr. Charles W. Johnson, Chairman of the Napoleon Hill Foundation and a nephew of Napoleon Hill. It was Napoleon Hill who sent Dr. Johnson to medical school, and today he is a practicing cardiologist. Charlie refers to Napoleon Hill as “Uncle Nap” and will often makes the statement, “Uncle Nap would be proud of the Foundation today.” The original 1937 manuscript was written and edited with the assistance of Napoleon’s wife. In later years, the existing document was again edited by Dr. Hill. For example, the Foundation owns a 1958 edition that Hill edited personally. This did not lessen the book’s value in Hill’s judgment. Hill made the editing remarks in his own handwriting and the resulting 1960 edited edition has sold over 100 million copies making it the most read self-help book of all time
