“Enthusiasm is power, for it is the instrument by which adversities, failures and temporary defeat may be transmuted into action backed by faith.”

While thinking of how the message of Napoleon Hill is disseminated to many countries I am reminded of when I started as Executive Director, about seventeen years ago, using the mail, phone, and fax machine to do most of our foreign communications. The process of selling rights to a foreign country was done by mailing a book to China, Russia, Malaysia, Japan, and literally to every country in the world. This was a very slow process.

This week, I was interviewed by Voice of America on Skype which is a platform that is easily available to most of the world thanks to our internet technology.

Previously, books were printed from photographs of the pages and were used over and over and the results deteriorated with continued usage. Today, with digital files there is no limit to the number of times it can be used and the twentieth printing is as clear as the first. Modern technology has been a positive influence on book publishing for which we in the business are grateful.

Thanks to our technology there are many new ways of getting the message of Napoleon Hill to the right people and at an economical rate.

I wish you the best at whatever you do!

Vintage Essays By Judy Williamson, Director of the Napoleon Hill World Learning Center at Purdue University Calumnet

“The sense of the word among the Greeks affords the noblest definition of it: enthusiasm signified God in us. ~Madame de Staël

Dear Readers:

Children have little trouble creating and maintaining enthusiasm in their lives. Everything can be a valid excuse for jumping for joy! Field trips, birthdays, school closures, bedtime stories, and favorite foods are reasons for unbridled excitement. In adult lives enthusiasm, joy, and play are not as common and seem to be available only at a high premium. With age comes restrictions, and generally it is considered to be in poor form if we exhibit too much joy, play, or excitement. W. Clement’s mantra “I feel healthy, I feel happy, I feel terrific” needs to be said many times over in order to summon the spirits of these states of being in our adult world. When the emotion is sucked out of life and only the shell remains, people tire easily, lack creativity, and overlook the joy that life has to offer. By being enthusiastic, or even faking enthusiasm, our demeanor and well being begin to take on a new life. Enthusiasm is truly a powerful elixir and positive potion for getting the joy in living back in the daily grind.

Two books worth reading about being filled with the spirit of enthusiasm are Norman Vincent Peale’s Enthusiasm Makes The Difference and Life is Tremendous by Charlie “T” Jones. Both books help you to make your life more rewarding and ease your cares and worries. By embracing life and laughing out loud, we can command new ways of being and remodel our present in order to better our future. Taking time for laughter is healing and contagious. When laughing we receive an interior massage that uplifts our spirit. Both Peale and Jones are experts at calling our attention back to what really matters and makes a huge difference in our life’s outcome.

Recently, while cleaning out files, I came across this Irish story and it made me laugh because when I imagined the pub scene, I recalled similar circumstances. Here is the story. See if it tickles your funny bone as it did mine.

————————————————————————-

Two women were sitting next to each other at a bar. After a while one looks at the other and says, “I can’t help but think, from listening to you, that you’re from Ireland.”
The other woman responds proudly, “Yes, I sure am!”
The first one says, “So am I! And where about in Ireland are ya from?”
The other woman answers, “I’m from St. John’s, I am.”
The first one responds, “So am I!!! And what street did you live on?”
The other woman says, “A lovely little area it was in the west end. I lived on Warbury Street in the old central part of town.”
The first one says, “Faith and it’s a small world. So did I! So did I! And what school did ya go to!”
The other woman answers, “Well now, I went to Holy Heart of Mary, of course.”
The first one gets really excited and says, “And so did I. Tell me, what year did you graduate?”
The other woman answers, “Well, now, let’s see. I graduated in 1964.”
The first woman exclaims, “The Good Lord must be smiling down upon us! I can hardly believe our good luck at winding up in the same pub tonight. Can you believe it, I graduated from Holy Heart of Mary in 1964 meself.”
About this time, Michael walks into the bar, sits down and orders a beer.
Brian, the bartender, walks over to Michael, shaking his head and mutters, “It’s going to be a long night tonight.”
Michael asks, “Why do you say that Brian?”
Brian answers, “The Murphy twins are drunk again.”

Why not begin today by lightening up on your attitude? Be purposefully playful, laugh to invigorate yourself, and be enthusiastic in order to put worries and frustrations in the back seat. In time, you will be able to turn on your enthusiasm switch, and bring a childlike joyful spirit back into your life. In my mind’s eye, I can visualize Charlie Jones telling this story with his usual style. He was truly a captivating and accomplished speaker! And, what’s more, his hugs were TREMENDOUS!

Be Your Very Best Always,
Judy Williamson

The Law of Success

Enthusiasm of Belief
by Napoleon Hill

If you want to do something, work yourself into a state of wild enthusiasm and go to work where you stand, even if it’s nothing more than drawing a picture in your mind of the thing you want to do, and keep drawing that picture, making it more vivid all the time. Inasmuch as you make use of the tools that are available to you now, other and better tools will be put in your hands. That’s one of the strange things of life but that’s the way it works. Public speakers and teachers express enthusiasm by control of the voice. In fact, one of my students paid me a very high compliment when she asked if I had any voice training or voice culture or any thing of that sort. I said, “No, nothing, not a thing. I had a course in public speaking a long time ago but I violate everything the teacher ever taught me. I have my own system.” She said, “Well, you have a most marvelous voice and I often wondered if you trained to impart the enthusiasm or the meaning that you want to impart with it.” I said, “No, the answer is this. When I say something, I believe what I’m saying. I’m sincere about it and that’s the grandest voice control that I know anything about.” You express enthusiasm when you know that the thing that you’re saying at the time is the thing that you ought to say and the thing that will do some good for the other fellow, and perhaps for you, too.

Enthusiasm!
by Larry Myers

Ka-POW! That’s what enthusiasm feels like to me. Enthusiasm is an internal…, intangible…, vibrating energy felt within my mind and within my heart. Napoleon Hill’s masterful essay on the principle of enthusiasm defined enthusiasm as a state of mind – that inspires one to put action into the task at hand. Enthusiasm is contagious and it vitally affects not only the enthusiast, but all with whom he or she comes into contact. Enthusiasm is a vital and moving force that impels action. When you are enthusiastic about what you are selling (be it goods, services, ideas, or yourself), enthusiasm affects the way you say things, the tone of your voice, the sincerity of your beliefs, and it shows the level of your conviction and belief.

Controlled enthusiasm not only affects the one who possesses it, but it also affects others who are within close contact. This is because enthusiasm stimulates the mind of the one who possesses it and keys up the mind to a higher vibratory rate. When your mind is vibrating at a high rate, because it has been stimulated with enthusiasm – that vibration registers in the minds of all within its radius, and especially in the minds of those with whom you come into close contact. With this as the basis of understanding of enthusiasm, it becomes apparent how important it is for you use suggestion to key up and facilitate the potent force of enthusiasm as you pursue your goals or definite major purpose.

One of Napoleon Hills statements that resonates with me is the following “In as much as it is a radiation of the spirit, enthusiasm is closely related or attuned to Infinite Intelligence.” That statement resonated with me because I have been experiencing the resonating effect of the Spirit of God within me since beginning a drama ministry project at my church over the last year. I currently serve as the Director of Drama for my church and in February of 2016, I delivered a presentation of the poem, “The Creation” from the book, God’s Trombones by James Weldon Johnson. God’s Trombones comprises 8 Negro sermons in poem form. My intent was to only present one poem from the book, but the enthusiasm I felt after delivering that first poem compelled me to begin the project to memorize the entire book of poetry and present them one at a time to my church congregation. One year later, I have presented four of the 8 poems.

My goal is to present the remaining four poems in 2017. This memorization and presentation project has benefited me in unexpected ways. For one, I have truly felt the spirit and presence of God as I’ve sown the seeds of the poems into my life. My creative imagination has also benefited from visualizing the scenes and imagery of these epic poems. And lastly, I have derived a great deal of satisfaction from the members of my congregation who have appreciated my efforts to minister to them through drama. My experience has proven that enthusiasm truly is the spirit of God within us.

Napoleon Hill Is on the Air!: The Five Foundations for Success

by Napoleon Hill

In 1953, at the pinnacle of his career, beloved motivational speaker Napoleon Hill—whose classic Think and Grow Rich continues to inspire millions—distilled his lifetime work into a series of live radio broadcasts. In each one, Hill walked his listeners through one of the Five Foundations for Success—what he described as absolute musts connected to “practically all achievement that’s worth mentioning.”

Napoleon Hill Is on the Air! comprises those never-before-published transcripts in an engaging Q&A format. Together they provide deep analysis of the “Big Five” principles and how to apply them for maximum benefit in business and relationships. The transcripts also offer rich, off-the-cuff insights and inspirational stories derived from Hill’s years spent studying American icons, including Henry Ford, Andrew Carnegie, Thomas Edison, Charles M. Schwab, and President Franklin D. Roosevelt. This remarkable book offers a unique perspective on Napoleon Hill’s groundbreaking principles of success—as practical and powerful today as when he first discovered them.

The Foundation has partnered with the Grand Harbor Press Division of Amazon to publish a number of previously unpublished radio and television broadcasts by Napoleon Hill. Called the “Napoleon Hill is On The Air” series, the first of the books is “The Five Foundations for Success.” It will be published on March 14 and is available for pre-order now on Amazon. It consists of radio broadcasts made by Dr. Hill in Jackson, Mississippi in 1953. In these broadcasts, he concentrated on what he considered to be the “Big 5” of his seventeen success principles. This powerful book also contains an introduction by Dr. Charles Johnson, Dr. Hill’s nephew, which is the only public pronouncement about his uncle that Dr. Johnson has ever made.

The Other Side of the Mind

by W. Clement Stone and Norma Lee Browning

The human mind today is undergoing the most exciting and intensive probing in the history of mankind. In this unusual and provocative book, W. Clement Stone, a hard-headed businessman, and Norma Lee Browning, a top reporter, combine forces to explore The Other Side of the Mind – the fascinating, often controversial world of mind phenomena. “Enough is known today about the capabilities of the brain to provide science with its greatest challenge,” writes Norma Lee Browning. “It is now evident that we are only scratching the surface of human potentialities. When the curtain of mystery is lifted from the last unexplored corner of the mind, there will be no limits to what the future may hold for shaping the destiny of mankind.” Here also is a bold challenge to each reader – a challenge to keep an open mind as you read about: -The strange psychic life of the Australian Aborigines. -The mystery of the fire-walkers of the Fiji Islands. -The yogis of India, who may hold the key which scientists everywhere are looking for to unlock the hidden reservoirs of human efficiency and energy. -The startling and significant research into mental telepathy that is being done by Soviet scientists of the highest caliber. -Extra-sensory perception and what the future holds for para-psychology. -The researches into hypnosis, cybernetics and ESB – electrical stimulation of the brain. -Lourdes, for whose cures medical science has no explanation. -The sensitives of mediums who claim to have special psychic powers and the honest appearing charlatans who prey upon the gullible. -How you can relate the facts in this book to your own life to develop and maintain your physical, mental, and moral well-being.

Think and Grow Rich

by Napoleon Hill

As Executive Director of the Napoleon Hill Foundation, I receive many requests from people wanting the original 1937 copy of Think and Grow Rich. To satisfy those of you who desire to have a 1937 unedited copy, we have reproduced Napoleon Hill’s personal copy of the first edition, printed in March of 1937. The book has the notation, “not to be loaned,” and signed: Annie Lou Hill (the wife of Dr. Hill). This personal copy of Dr. Hill’s was given to me by Dr. Charles W. Johnson, Chairman of the Napoleon Hill Foundation and a nephew of Napoleon Hill. It was Napoleon Hill who sent Dr. Johnson to medical school, and today he is a practicing cardiologist. Charlie refers to Napoleon Hill as “Uncle Nap” and will often makes the statement, “Uncle Nap would be proud of the Foundation today.” The original 1937 manuscript was written and edited with the assistance of Napoleon’s wife. In later years, the existing document was again edited by Dr. Hill. For example, the Foundation owns a 1958 edition that Hill edited personally. This did not lessen the book’s value in Hill’s judgment. Hill made the editing remarks in his own handwriting and the resulting 1960 edited edition has sold over 100 million copies making it the most read self-help book of all time
