MORE DYNAMITE!!

The Foundation is proud to announce that the second book in the series based on the long lost Mental Dynamite booklets written by Napoleon Hill will be published by Random House/Penguin on September 19. Titled “How to Own Your Own Mind,” the book focuses on three of the seventeen principles: Creative Vision, Organized Thought and Controlled Attention. These principles show how you can focus and use your mind to carry out your definite major purpose. The book is available for pre-order on Amazon now.

Creative Vision includes the power of imagination and is the means by which one recognizes opportunities. Organized Thought, when combined with will power and self- discipline, is the means by which Creative Vision is fully developed. And Controlled Attention, coupled with intense concentration, is how thought is turned into action.

Napoleon Hill often said that action is critical to success, but one must think before one can grow rich, and this book, with many examples and success stories, will show you how to think and gain control of your own mind. We are sure you will enjoy and benefit from these chapters, timeless and still valid after many decades in the Foundation’s archives.

Now available on Amazon!

Vintage Essays By Judy Williamson, Director of the Napoleon Hill World Learning Center at Purdue University Calumnet

Dear Readers,

On one of my bookcases is a small plaque that reads, “Success is a journey, not a destination.” This quote is by Ben Sweetland, and is a constant reminder to me that I am a work in progress and the goal in front of me is always challenging me to make this world a better place in which to live.

I originated a three hour credit course here at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise on the success principles. I taught this course as a night class because I was employed as a bank president during the day.

One of the questions I would often ask the students was “what is success?” Most of the time, the answer was that success meant you had a lot of money. When I was a young person, I was not much different than most of my students. At that time, I believed success was measured in the size of your bank account, wearing a gold watch, and having a black Mercedes. However, we all reach a point in our life where we recall the words in Peggy Lee’s song, “is this all there is.”

As we mature, we will likely realize that the person we are views the world differently than when we were younger. As we age, we are more concerned with how we can help others, instead of just accumulating material possessions. We also realize that success is not really about reaching a certain destination, but it is about who we become along the way.

I wish you the best in all that you do.

The Law of Success

The Desire for Material Gain
by Napoleon Hill

The desire for material gain. Desire for material gain is fundamental in human nature. If you combine these first three: The emotion of love, the emotion of sex, and the desire for material wealth or gain, you will have the three emotions which make the world go around. You may be sure that if you are motivated by this emotion, you will be much more anxious to get the job than you are to get through with it and away from it, and you will not feel that your work is a burden. You will feel it is a privilege, because by your work you will be obtaining the means of satisfying your desires. You know, work is a liaison office between our desires and their fulfillments.

Criticism has been leveled by some people because they feel there is too much consideration for the material things in life. If we seem to overemphasize the importance of money and material riches, it is because so many people let fear of poverty ruin their chances to enjoy the other riches in life. The real good there is in money consists of the use to which it is put and not the mere possession of it. True happiness consists not in the possession of things, but the privilege of self-expression through the use of material things. They are but a means to an end – physical instruments of impression and expression. You must have money in order to enjoy freedom of body and mind, which is a choice blessing. A person cannot be really free if he must be chained to a routine job most of his waking hours and receive in return for that a mere subsistence. If a person has to pay that much for existence he is paying too high a price! These lessons will give you the formula for breaking with past habits of accepting the crumbs from life’s table, and teach you a proven way in which you can rid yourself of self-imposed limitations and enjoy your fill of life’s riches.

But let anyone who imagines that he does not want money try to get along without it. He will soon find out that one of the worst crimes a man can be guilty of is to be poverty-stricken and broke. Let us be realistic enough to face the facts of life, and demand from life the best that it can give.

This principle is one of human freedom and abundance. It is an antidote for poverty and want. Money is the most common form of wealth, and hence financial security is the most sought-after goal. Our entire national economy is based on the profit motive and let us hope that nothing ever happens to remove or stifle that incentive of reward for personal initiative. It is the basis of the American way of life.

Is it any wonder then, that the desire for wealth or gain is a powerful motive for action? Uncontrolled, this desire leads to greed. When it is controlled and guided by a worthwhile definite goal, it is a source of constructive action which may bless and enrich the lives of men and women.

Our suggested creed concerning material riches may be summarized in a few short statements:

I give thanks daily, not for mere riches, but for wisdom with which to recognize, embrace, and properly use the great abundance of riches I now have at my command. I have no enemies because I injure no man for any cause, but I try to benefit all with whom I come in contact, by teaching them the way to enduring riches. I have more material wealth than I need because I am free from greed and covet only the material things I can use while I live.

Incorporate this creed into your specific goal in regard to the satisfaction of your own individual desire for wealth.

Identifying Success
by Jim Stovall

We live in a consumer society. We are judged and measured based on what we buy, how often we buy, and everything we have. There are countless promotional and advertising images thrust upon us daily designed to make us feel inadequate so that an imaginary heretofore unknown shortcoming in our lives can be solved by someone’s product or service they want to sell us. We are told emphatically that we will be successful if we drive the right car, drink the right beverage, or use the right fragrance.

Success is not that simple, or maybe it’s not that complex. Success is a self-fulfilling prophecy. No one else can define your success any more than they can order your dinner, try on a suit of clothes for you, or tell your doctor where it hurts. When it comes to your personal and professional success, you determine the destination, the deadline, and the details. No one else can do this for you, and you must identify and define your own success if you ever hope to achieve it.

When you want to tune in a certain radio station on a particular frequency, you adjust your radio to get rid of all the static and tune out the competing signals. Defining your own success is similar in that you must first get rid of all the noise and remove all the influences that do not come from your own mind, heart, and soul. If it is your passion and definition of success to become a special education teacher but you listen to messages from well-meaning family and friends urging you to become a corporate CEO, you may find yourself running a massive organization while making millions of dollars and living your life as an abject failure.

In the famous scene in Alice in Wonderland, the Cheshire cat is asked which path to take. The wise cat inquired, “Where do you want to go?” When the response was, “I don’t know,” the cat stated for the moment and for history, “Then it really doesn’t matter which path you take.”

You can’t achieve a goal you don’t own. It doesn’t matter what others think you should do, ought to do, or might do. All that matters is what you want your life to look like. Often this process begins with thinking of your perfect day and what activities bring you contentment. Then if you will consider paths that bring you more contentment and eliminate the things you don’t want your days to look like, you will begin to piece together the puzzle that can define your own success.

As you go through your day today, remember there is no success in your life unless it is your own success.

The Little Book of Leadership

The Path to Personal Power

by Napoleon Hill

This true lost manuscript from the “grandfather of self-help,” Napoleon Hill provides timeless wisdom on how to attain a more successful and wealthy life using simple principles.

Napoleon Hill first wrote The Path to Personal Power in 1941, intending it as a handbook for people lifting themselves out of the Great Depression. But upon the bombing of Pearl Harbor and America’s entrance into World War II, these lessons were put aside and largely forgotten–until today.

Discovered in the archives of the Napoleon Hill Foundation, this never-before-published work is made up of three easily digested lessons, each its own chapter: Definiteness of Purpose; the Master Mind; and Going the Extra Mile.

This concise book is a powerful road map that leads to a single discovery–you already have the power to attain whatever wealth, success, and prosperity you desire in life. All you need to do is walk the path without straying, and the rest will follow.

Using these lessons, you have principles to live by that will help you stay on your own personal path to power, and achieve success that you never thought possible.

Will be released on July 18, 2017 on Amazon.com

Think and Grow Rich

by Napoleon Hill

As Executive Director of the Napoleon Hill Foundation, I receive many requests from people wanting the original 1937 copy of Think and Grow Rich. To satisfy those of you who desire to have a 1937 unedited copy, we have reproduced Napoleon Hill’s personal copy of the first edition, printed in March of 1937. The book has the notation, “not to be loaned,” and signed: Annie Lou Hill (the wife of Dr. Hill). This personal copy of Dr. Hill’s was given to me by Dr. Charles W. Johnson, Chairman of the Napoleon Hill Foundation and a nephew of Napoleon Hill. It was Napoleon Hill who sent Dr. Johnson to medical school, and today he is a practicing cardiologist. Charlie refers to Napoleon Hill as “Uncle Nap” and will often makes the statement, “Uncle Nap would be proud of the Foundation today.” The original 1937 manuscript was written and edited with the assistance of Napoleon’s wife. In later years, the existing document was again edited by Dr. Hill. For example, the Foundation owns a 1958 edition that Hill edited personally. This did not lessen the book’s value in Hill’s judgment. Hill made the editing remarks in his own handwriting and the resulting 1960 edited edition has sold over 100 million copies making it the most read self-help book of all time
