Going the Extra Mile

by Robert Newell

Going the Extra Mile is PMA in action.  Every successful person has a willingness to put their faith into action and help others without expecting a reward, payment, or acknowledgment.  They do the right thing because it is the right thing to do.  What person in your life would epitomize this?

Going the Extra Mile is providing extra service, with the highest possible quality, than you are being paid to do.  It is more than ‘dotting the I’s’ and ‘crossing the T’s’, it is seeking to provide an unexpectedly positive experience to the receiver.  Going the Extra Mile allows you to leverage your Pleasing Personality, Enthusiasm, and Personal Initiative as you actively share yourself with your environment.  Do you seek to delight your family, community, and business associates?  If not, you may be missing out on opportunities for instant happiness and future compensation.

The Extra Mile Formula, developed by Napoleon Hill, represents the benefit of Going the Extra Mile:

Q1 + Q2 + MA = C
Q1 = quality of service; Q2 = quantity of service; MA = mental attitude; C = compensation

Your mental attitude is critical to increasing or decreasing your potential compensation. The right mental attitude provides the courage to take action.

Remember, compensation is not always financial; it means all potential tangible and intangible outcomes.  It may include self-satisfaction, new friends,  referrals, or new job opportunities.  Sound Advice: “Share that which is most desirable and withhold the rest.”

You do not need permission to Go the Extra Mile.  Decide today and get into action.  Volunteer at your local place of worship, community center, or civic organization, then get busy.  Want to keep it simple?  Find a family member or neighbor that needs help and practice The Golden Rule, “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
