Twice as Much in Half the Time (Part II)

Aim Higher

Start with your normal way of projecting, your sales, and profits of whatever achievements you desire. Then take that number and multiply it by four. You must be different to do twice as much in half the time. This means you must aim higher, It's unorthodox, and It isn't what you'd be taught at Harvard Graduate School of Business. But it can work for you as it has for many others.

That's why you are urged to, extract the principles from this newsletter and good self-help books. For most universities do not teach the art of motivation. Yet, the knowledge of how to motivate yourself and others is the most important ingredient of success in any human activity.

But you must do more than set goals to achieve twice as much in half the time. You must plan. You must get into action. Keep in mind the universal truth to be found in the book, Cycles, by Dewey and Dakin:

"Every growing organism grows to maturity, levels off and dies . . . unless there is new life, new blood, new activity."

Keep Pace with Change

"You'll be able to travel between San Francisco and Honolulu in less than four hours within a few years from now;" Henry J. Kaiser told me almost four decades ago. He was right, but conservative in his assessment.

Mr. Kaiser was speaking only of advances expected in air travel; he didn't anticipate the technological revolution underway today. Contemporary executives can virtually eliminate time and distance with the use of video conferencing, faxes and computer networks.

Because of advances in technology, one executive can do the work of many. He or she keeps pace with the times. They do twice the work in half the time.

They are also reaching around the globe to build their businesses. They are employing their capital and know-how to expand the market for their products and services.

Successful companies also improve continually. In today's intensely competitive world, they are helping their people develop new skills arid quality and productivity improvement methods.

New technologies and global competitiveness have brought new challenges to be sure, but they have also brought new opportunities. Never before has the opportunity been greater to do twice as much in half the time.
