Dr. Hill’s famous quote, “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve” is often misunderstood. On the surface, what he wrote is nothing extraordinary and is simple common sense. If you can conceive of an idea, and believe that you can make it happen, then you will be able to take the steps necessary to carry out your plan to actualize the goal/idea you have….

According to Andrew Carnegie, there are two types of people in the world who will never amount to anything. The first is the one who will give only what is asked for or demanded to get a job done. The second is the person who cannot even do what is required to get the job done. In my opinion, there is a third type of person who will have great difficulty achieving anything of lasting importance to themselves, or anyone else – that is the person who does not use good judgment or common sense when practicing personal initiative….

You may be asking yourself, “What exactly is Accurate Thinking?” When I was studying Napoleon Hill’s Science of Success and got to the 10th principle, that’s exactly what I was thinking. Sounds easy, but what is it? What does it have to do with me-or you? How does this apply to our lives? What does it mean? Well, here’s how Napoleon Hill described Accurate Thinking….

Everyone has heard of The Golden Rule – Do unto others as you would have done unto you. The challenge is applying it in our lives, on a daily basis, in everything we do. An adaptation of The Golden Rule is to do unto others as they would have done unto them. We are all unique and what you would like people to do to you is often different than what other people want done unto them…..

Napoleon Hill said, “No mind is complete by itself. It needs contact and association with other minds to grow and expand.” The proper use of a mastermind group is the cornerstone to all great achievement, and it is one of the steps that people most often overlook. On our own, we can only ever have a limited amount of experience, a mastermind group allows us to draw freely from the experience, training, skills, and knowledge of others who align with our definite major purpose. The resulting benefits include a magnification of the combined qualities of each member, as well as increased courage, faith, and a host of other positive advantages. In other words, on your own, you’re a single brushstroke, but in a mastermind group you could become a Monet….

The topic of gratitude is seen in many articles everywhere today as we are all looking for a healthier and more peaceful way of life. It is true that when we encounter a person who exhibits a high sense of gratitude they possess a joyful and a positive attitude filled with enthusiasm, which is contagious. We prefer to be around a person who has these traits because they add value and enjoyment to our day. The heart of gratitude is more precious than gold, consider it priceless.

Nature has a heart of gratitude and we can certainly learn from her. I was taught a valuable lesson this year from my visit to a local orchard in Northwest Indiana….

There is a saying you probably heard before that goes like this: “You get what you pay for.” That is true in most cases when it comes to services and goods. This is something that thanks to our economy we have rightfully come to expect. But what can you expect to get from something that costs only fifty cents? Here is one instance where that saying is not true, but in a very good way. It’s not hard to find a bargain as long as you are looking for it. I found a great one at a local thrift store when I purchased a CD called The Best of Classics for Meditation. Total running time fifty four minutes and ten seconds. To me it’s not worth fifty cents….

Often in life it’s a really good idea to “Go the Extra Mile” and sometimes a little more is required of us–to be bolder and maybe even a bit louder. Being a leader is what most people dream of becoming. But it is more than being the center of the group, the loudest mouth or even the boss….

Ka-POW! That’s what enthusiasm feels like to me. Enthusiasm is an internal … intangible … vibrating energy felt within my mind and within my heart. Napoleon Hill’s masterful essay on the principle of enthusiasm defined enthusiasm as a state of mind that inspires one to put action into the task at hand. Enthusiasm is contagious and it vitally affects not only the enthusiast, but all with whom he or she comes into contact. Enthusiasm is a vital and moving force that impels action…..

When I think of personal initiative immediately I have a link in my mind thinking about going the extra mile. No going the extra mile without personal initiative. Also thoughts about how this principle from Napoleon Hills 17 principles of Personal Achievement has influenced my life in such a positive and outstanding way. According to Andrew Carnegie there are two types of people who never amount to anything. “There are those who never do anything except what they are told to do. And there are those who cannot even do what they are told to do. The people who get ahead do the things that should be done without being told. And they don’t stop there. They go the extra mile and do much more than is expected of them.” Personal initiative is absolutely necessary if you are going to realize your goal. It will bring you advancement, attention and opportunity….

After completing the three study phases toward certification, in March 2015, I adopted a service project as the means to acquire my certification as Instructor of the PMA Science of Success Course. The objective of the service project was to develop a self-study system that will enable the student of the success principles to study, understand, and assimilate each principle first as a single lesson then as a single principle across all the lessons….

You may or may not know that “Personal Initiative” is Napoleon Hill’s 6th Principle in the Keys for Success. Being the Sixth Principle out of seventeen success Principles should give you a better sense as to the importance of Personal Initiative in relationship to the overall 17 Keys of Success. The sixth Key is what I call the DO IT NOW principle. I equate initiative with action, personal action. Things will only begin to happen when you start to make things happen. You can have the best plans, ideas and thoughts in your mind and nothing will happen until you take action.  Like the old Chinese proverb elegantly says “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”….

The good news is that the “science” itself is simple, doesn’t require a formal college education and has zero costs, making the attainment of success possible for virtually everyone. And, the only tool you need to begin to successfully use the science of success in attaining the life you desire, is one you already possess — your mind….
