Wishes Won’t
Bring Riches

The Mental Dynamite Series

In this lost classic, the pioneering motivational coach teaches how to make the crucial leap from faith to action in bringing your dreams to life.

Believe in yourself…Have faith. We often hear these expressions. But faith is not enough. We need Applied Faith. In three hard-hitting chapters, motivational master Napoleon Hill teaches you how to transform belief into action, and faith into real-life plans.

Application. Enthusiasm. Action. These are the three keys required to do more than just “believe in yourself” – but to actually BE the person you want to be.

Wishes Won’t Bring Riches provides you with the missing link necessary to go from visualizing your dreams to living them.

Vintage Essays By Judy Williamson, Director of the Napoleon Hill World Learning Center at Purdue University Calumnet

Dear Readers,

It should not surprise anyone that Napoleon Hill included maintaining sound health as one of the seventeen principles of success. After all, Napoleon Hill often wrote that the body and mind are one, effectively a mind-body. Our mind-body is then at one with nature.

We cannot separate the health of our mind from the health of our body. Anything that affects the soundness of your mind will affect your body, and vice versa. The influence of our minds on our health is a fact of life. A smooth functioning mind is essential to having good health.

Dr. Napoleon Hill often told his readers that many success principles contribute to having a sound mind. Some of the most important principles that help our mind are definite major purpose, self-discipline, and controlled attention.

It is also important to realize that a positive mental attitude is vital to having good health. One of the greatest forces that negatively affects our mind is fear. Fear can destroy enthusiasm, kill faith, damage our vision, and eliminate peace of mind. Additionally, when fear runs rampant in our mind, this can lead to illness and even death. In order to properly eliminate fear, we must replace it with faith and a positive mental attitude.

The last factors that affect our mind-body, and we are all aware of these, are physical ones. This includes exercise, eating habits, and sleep patterns. If we neglect to properly care for our mind, our physical health will suffer. However, if we neglect to exercise, eat nutritious foods, or get enough sleep, our health will also suffer. So it is important to remember that being healthy includes focusing on both your mental and physical health. It is impossible to have a healthy body if your mind is constantly filled with fear and anxiety. Likewise, it is impossible to have a healthy mind if your body is constantly filled with junk food.

I wish you the best,

The Law of Success

Maintenance of Sound Health
by Napoleon Hill

Most everyone of us would like to get the greatest vigor and fullness use from that body of ours. We can if we make certain that we fully understand two important ideas. They are the oneness of the Creator’s masterpiece, the human mind-body, and its oneness with all of nature.

If you think you are sick, you are.

We cannot separate the body and the mind, for they are one. Anything that affects the health and vigor of the mind will affect the body. In turn, anything that affects the health of our body will affect the mind. This point is so essential to our understanding of health that we have termed the individual a human mind-body.

We are not only one in the sense of a mind-body, but we are also part of the environment in which we live. We are born into a world of trees and mountains and moonlit skies, peopled with all forms of living things and subject to the same natural laws that govern all things, even the grain of wheat.

Perhaps we can gain wisdom and insight into the handling of this mind-body of our by examining the world about us and how it functions, so that we may swim with the river of life, and not exhaust our energies fighting against it.

THE RHYTHMS OF LIFE

When we consider the waves of the ocean, the flow of the changing seasons, the wane and ebb of the moon, we find there are rhythms to life. There is even a rhythm in our own life from birth through childhood and adolescence to full maturity, old age, and finally rebirth of a new generation. Light and electromagnetic impulses of radio are waves. The movement of the stars and the planets about our sun are rhythmical in nature. So also is the motion of the tiniest particle. The electrons move in a rhythmical pattern about the proton in the atom.

Nothing about life is static or unchanging. There seems to be a constant wave-like motion to life. It is actually a progression of rhythmical patterns. This is one of the factors in our enjoyment of music. It would seem wise that we strive to bend and sway with the rhythms of life, and not stand fixed and immobile against them. The sandy beach moves and changes with the rhythms of the waves, and stands for eternity. The breakwater is soon destroyed.

Don’t neglect to play and relax regularly.

Review your own life. Do you live a rhythmical life? Are you following work with play; mental effort with physical effort; eating with fasting; seriousness with humor; sex with transmutation of sex into sublime creative effort? Consider for a moment one of the earlier lessons in which you learned that the subconscious mind worked best when the mind was at rest, best when we live a rhythm of work and play. The greatest research achievements are produced by the subconscious mind, after it has been loaded with the facts, and the mind is then occupied with other thoughts. That is, the mind is playing. Are you giving your subconscious mind a chance to work by playing?

Metternich, the great statesman, often received his most brilliant inspiration while finishing a book h was reading. It is the interference with the normal rhythmical patterns of the stomach that may produce ulcers. Is it no our failures which make our success so sweet? The calm, refreshed beauty after the storm is exquisite, when each wet leaf and blade of grass sparkles with new beauty in the first rays of the sun, and the air is clear and fresh. The magnitude of nature’s beauty is enhanced because of the storm.

Do you really want continuous happiness? No, for that would lose it zest. It is really those little unhappinesses that make happiness meaningful.

In marriage counseling, one of the problems is to make couples understand that there is no such thing as being constantly in love, nor would it be desirable if it could be achieved. People in love have a series of lovers, like waves on the ocean. In the troughs they are quite neutral in their feelings. These troughs make the waves of love that much more poignant. Like life, not all the waves are of the same intensity; there are a few for each of us that reach great heights, and these we store to call out and use when the going becomes difficult.

Thus, this mind-body of ours, to reach great heights of successful living and smooth efficient functioning, must first learn to live a rhythmical life, in harmony with the world of living and non-living things about us, and in harmony with natural laws that govern these rhythms of life.

The Gift of Laughter
by Jim Stovall

It has been said that laughter is good medicine. Our world is desperately in search of good medicine to heal wounds and conflicts.

When you think of the good times in your life and the special people you have known, those precious memories that you can recall most likely involve laughter. There are some memories that are so strong that just recalling a certain time and place can cause you to smile or laugh, even years later. These times are what I call “making a deposit in your memory bank.”

If you doubt the power of laughter, I would refer you to Norman Cousin’s book The Anatomy of an Illness. In this book, Cousins recounts his own story of overcoming a terminal disease through the power of laughter. It is not simply Pollyanna or pie in the sky; there are clinical, physiological benefits to laughter. But, more importantly, laughter improves the quality of the lives we live.

Kelly Morrison is the marketing director for my work on television, books, speaking engagements, and these columns. She is also a very talented singer and songwriter. The best song she has ever written, and one of the best that anyone has ever written, is entitled “Laugh a Little.” The song is about two friends whose lives are taking them in separate directions. The parting advice is to always find a way to bring laughter and joy into every situation.

Find ways today to bring joy and laughter into your life and the lives of those around you. You will be healthier, happier, and a much more desirable person to be around. Particularly in times of stress, be sure to keep on hand: books, videos, and your ever-growing memory bank to give you an instant deposit of laughter and joy.

The Gift of Laughter is just one of the twelve gifts in my book and movie The Ultimate Gift. I hope you will embrace each of the gifts and focus this week on bringing laughter into your world.

Today’s the day!
