Wishes Won’t
Bring Riches

The Mental Dynamite Series

In this lost classic, the pioneering motivational coach teaches how to make the crucial leap from faith to action in bringing your dreams to life.

Believe in yourself…Have faith. We often hear these expressions. But faith is not enough. We need Applied Faith. In three hard-hitting chapters, motivational master Napoleon Hill teaches you how to transform belief into action, and faith into real-life plans.

Application. Enthusiasm. Action. These are the three keys required to do more than just “believe in yourself” – but to actually BE the person you want to be.

Wishes Won’t Bring Riches provides you with the missing link necessary to go from visualizing your dreams to living them.

Vintage Essays By Judy Williamson, Director of the Napoleon Hill World Learning Center at Purdue University Calumnet

Dear Readers,

At the end of every school year, there is usually a graduation or commencement ceremony. For some, this special event signifies the end of an era. However, I tend to believe that any graduation is simply a new beginning.

At one time, a high school diploma was all that was needed to find a good career. Times quickly change and now it is important to have a college degree in order to find a good job. A survey that was conducted a few years ago showed that college graduates earn about 75% more than a high school graduate does.

On the other hand, I would like to point out that education does not always come from an academic institution. Many times, some of the world’s most successful individuals have been high school dropouts. In spite of this, these individuals continued learning on their own by personal reading and other sources.

I want you to realize that education is a lifelong process and is the bridge that takes us from where we are to where we want to go. Age should not deter you from continuing your education, nor should you feel limited because of your lack of education. I feel that we should all practice the philosophy of constantly learning in order to grow. Otherwise, we grow stagnant like swamp water. Remember, when you invest in education, you are really making an investment in yourself.

I wish you the best,
Don Green

The purpose of the course is to enable you to find out how you may become more capable in your chosen field of work. To this end, you will be analyzed and all of your qualities classified so you may organize them and make the best possible use of them.

You may not like the work in which you are now engaged.

There are two ways of getting out of that work. One way is to take but little interest in what you are doing, aiming merely to do enough with which to “get by.” Very soon you will find a way out because the demand for your services will cease.

The other and better way is by making yourself so useful and efficient in what you are now doing that you will attract the favorable attention of those who have the power to promote you into more responsible work that is more to your liking.

It is your privilege to take your choice as to which way you will proceed. Again you are reminded of the importance of the lessons of this course, through the aid of which you may avail yourself of this “better way” of promoting yourself.

Thousands of people walked over the great Calumet Copper Mine without discovering it. Just one lone man used his “imagination,” dug down into the earth a few feet, investigated, and discovered the richest copper deposit on earth. You and every other person walk, at one time or another, over your “Calumet Mine.”

Discovery is a matter of investigation and use of “imagination.” This course may lead the way to your “Calumet,” and you may be surprised when you discover that you were standing right over this rich mine, in the work in which you are now engaged. In his lecture on “Acres of Diamonds,” Russell Conwell tells us that we need not seek opportunity in the distance; that we may find it right where we stand!

THIS IS A TRUTH WELL WORTH REMEMBERING!

Smart vs. Intelligent
by Jim Stovall

In our society, we have been sold a false premise for generations. This premise would tell us that the more we know, the more we earn, the more we’re successful, and the happier we become. This is simply not true.

It has been said, “It’s not how smart you are, but how you are smart.” The world is full of people who might become Trivial Pursuit champions but simply don’t know how to apply any knowledge in a form that brings them the results they seek. As a person who reads a book every day thanks to books on tape and a high-speed tape player, I would be the first to say that education and learning are vital, but they are only vital when they can be applied to real-world situations.

I have a good friend who is a surgeon. He makes a tremendous income from practicing his profession. I remember him describing an operation to me. He said, “You simply make a cut and remove the damaged tissue.” I told him I was shocked that he made thousands of dollars for making a simple incision. He responded, “For making the cut, I charge about $10. For knowing where to make the cut, I have become a millionaire.”

In business and in life, it is often more important to understand the right question than to immediately have the answer. Now that we live in a world of high-speed Internet access, knowledge rests at our fingertips. But knowing where to get the knowledge and how best to apply it to a real-world problem or opportunity poses the same challenge it did to people who lived thousands of years ago.

In my career, I have sat for a number of tests to obtain professional licenses. Most of these tests were in the financial arena. Unfortunately, in order to become a broker, financial planner, or investment banker, you have to spend months learning how to master intricate financial calculations. It is sad that once you have passed your test, this knowledge is never used again because these intricate financial calculations and many others are routinely done instantaneously at the touch of a computer key.

Someone could demonstrate amazing intelligence and unbelievable recall if they could memorize and recite a phone book. As incredible as this would be, it would turn out to be little more than a gimmick as all of the information in the phone book is readily available to anyone via computer, telephone, or by simply looking through their own phone book.

When you meet people who are successful or have achieved the things in life you want to achieve, get in the habit of asking them what knowledge they most often apply that brings them success. The answer may surprise you. Before you waste a lot of time learning the answers to questions no one is asking, determine what the real world solutions and answers are that people are seeking. The most valuable commodity on the planet is knowledge, but only if it is the right knowledge.

As you go through your day today, seek input and wisdom that will bring you toward the right knowledge.

Today’s the day!

The single characteristic shared by more top executives
is the fact that they read or listen to positive,
motivational, affirming material on a regular basis.

New York Times bestselling author Jeffrey Gitomer brings you the very foundation of Napoleon Hill’s self-help legacy: his long-lost original notes, letters, and lectures—now compiled, edited, and annotated for the modern reader.

Twenty years before the publication of his magnum opus Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill was an instructor, philosopher, and writer at the George Washington Institute in Chicago, where he taught courses in advertising and sales. These rare, never-before-seen lectures were thought to be lost to history. Until now.

Given exclusive access to the archives of the Napoleon Hill Foundation, Jeffrey Gitomer has unearthed Hill’s original course notes containing the fundamental beliefs in hard work and personal development that established Hill as a global leader of success and positive attitude.

In Truthful Living, Gitomer has captured Hill’s foundational wisdom for the twenty-first century. These easy-to-implement real-world strategies for life, family, business, and the bottom line prove as energizing and inspiring today as they were nearly one hundred years ago.
