Dear Readers,
Belief is a state of mind that is essential for maximum results. You may say that belief is faith that you will reach a positive outcome that can be used to achieve success. Belief is faith that should be active or applied in your everyday plans.
You should relate to your belief system or faith as a source of energy, but if there is a secret, it is this: action is a key component. Having your mind under your complete control will allow you to remove limitations that you have previously applied to yourself or allowed others to apply to you.
Belief in yourself is a quality that you can develop. It does not mean having an ego that tells you that anything is possible with little or no effort.
Belief must be developed by removing all negative thoughts of poverty, illness, and lack, and selecting a goal that you are passionate about. Having a definite goal or purpose is where all of your future successes will start.
Making your working plans, altering them when necessary, getting the cooperation of others when needed, and persisting without quitting will help to give you a belief system that will reward you throughout your life. Remember that with desire, plans, and the assistance of others, action is the key. Remember the little quote, “Faith without action is dead.”
You will discover that your belief system is needed if you are to turn desire into reality. Your belief system starts with the suggestions that you make to your subconscious mind. A belief is a part of you, giving you the realization that you have within you the ability to achieve what you think you can achieve as long as you desire to do so.
First and foremost, once you have the faith to achieve, you will acquire the necessary strength to bring about the goal you have in mind. You will begin to notice things, ideas, and people that can assist you. Belief in yourself will put you in touch with opportunities that you were not conscious of before you developed this belief.
Each accomplishment will add to this belief in yourself, and you will be truly in the small minority that uses belief in a positive manner to reach heights that others only dream of.

THE MYSTERY OF SEX TRANSMUTATION
The Tenth Step toward Riches

This is the seventh in a series of excerpts from Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich.
THE meaning of the word “transmute” is, in simple language, “the changing, or transferring of one element, or form of energy, into another.”
The emotion of sex brings into being a state of mind.
Because of ignorance on the subject, this state of mind is generally associated with the physical, and because of improper influences, to which most people have been subjected, in acquiring knowledge of sex, things essentially physical have highly biased the mind.
The emotion of sex has back of it the possibility of three constructive potentialities, they are:-
- The perpetuation of mankind.
- The maintenance of health, (as a therapeutic agency, it has no equal).
- The transformation of mediocrity into genius through transmutation.
Sex transmutation is simple and easily explained. It means the switching of the mind from thoughts of physical expression, to thoughts of some other nature.
Sex desire is the most powerful of human desires.
The transmutation of sex energy calls for the exercise of will-power, to be sure, but the reward is worth the effort. The desire for sexual expression is inborn and natural. The desire cannot, and should not be submerged or eliminated. But it should be given an outlet through forms of expression which enrich the body, mind, and spirit of man. If not given this form of outlet, through transmutation, it will seek outlets through purely physical channels.
A river may be dammed, and its water controlled for a time, but eventually, it will force an outlet. The same is true of the emotion of sex. It may be submerged and controlled for a time, but its very nature causes it to be ever seeking means of expression. If it is not transmuted into some creative effort it will find a less worthy outlet.
Fortunate, indeed, is the person who has discovered how to give sex emotion an outlet through some form of creative effort, for he has, by that discovery lifted himself to the status of a genius.
THE TEN MIND STIMULI
The human mind responds to stimuli, through which it may be “keyed up” to high rates of vibration, known as enthusiasm, creative imagination, intense desire, etc. The stimuli to which the mind responds most freely are:-
- The desire for sex expression
- Love
- A burning desire for fame, power, or financial gain, MONEY
- Music
- Friendship between either those of the same sex, or those of the opposite sex.
- A Master Mind alliance based upon the harmony of two or more people who ally themselves for spiritual or temporal advancement.
- Mutual suffering, such as that experienced by people who are persecuted.
- Auto-suggestion
- Fear
- Narcotics and alcohol.
The desire for sex expression comes at the head of the list of stimuli, which most effectively “step-up” the vibrations of the mind and start the “wheels” of physical action. Eight of these stimuli are natural and constructive. Two are destructive. The list is here presented for the purpose of enabling you to make a comparative study of the major sources of mind stimulation. From this study, it will be readily seen that the emotion of sex is, by great odds, the most intense and powerful of all mind stimuli.
This comparison is necessary as a foundation for proof of the statement that transmutation of sex energy may lift one to the status of a genius.

FREEDOM AND SUCCESS

For almost 20 years, my column has been read each week by people around the world. The readers of the Winners’ Wisdom columns represent a multitude of nationalities, faiths, creeds, and cultures.
If you have been a reader of mine for any length of time, you know that I believe that our success is greatly a product of our own attitude, effort, and ingenuity; however, this belief presumes that you live in a free and open society.
In the two decades I have been writing Winners’ Wisdom, technology has changed the world. In the mid-1990s, most of the readers of my weekly columns accessed my message via a print publication such as a magazine or newspaper. Today because of the Internet, a diverse group of people around the globe read this weekly offering via the Internet. Many of these new online readers live in countries where they face resistance and oppression toward their success, freedom, and happiness.
Freedom is an often-misunderstood word. We all grasp the concept of being able to do what we want to do and when we want to do it, but our ideas of freedom often get confused when we think of other people’s liberty, particularly when it relates to those with whom we disagree. The great American patriot, Thomas Paine, said, “He who would make his own liberty secure must guard even his own enemy from oppression.”
If you and I believe in liberty and enjoy our own freedom to succeed or fail on our own terms, we must not only tolerate those with whom we disagree, but we must be willing to fight for their rights as well as our own. I believe a true patriot and lover of liberty should be able to readily identify and articulate several beliefs, positions, and practices they disagree with personally but would defend vigorously.
I’m a voracious reader and find that I gain more enlightenment and deeper learning when reading books written by authors with whom I disagree. In many cases, I find that our areas of disagreement aren’t as deep as I thought they were, and as I begin to understand the motives behind other people’s mission and message, I find a lot of common ground. There is a phrase generally attributed to Native American wisdom that says, “Don’t judge a man unless you have walked a mile in his moccasins.”
Many times issues boil down to right versus wrong; in which case, we must stand up for what is right. But sometimes that which we think is wrong is merely a different perspective.
As you go through your day today, celebrate your own freedom by protecting the freedom of others.
