September 14, 2020!

Dear Student of Napoleon Hill,

This online distance learning course presents and examines the principles of success researched and developed by Dr. Napoleon Hill and others. It provides a framework for students to better understand life’s opportunities and the need for definiteness of purpose.

The class is based on and structured around Hill’s 17 Principles of Success. Each lesson focuses on one principle and contains online reading assignments, points to ponder, chapter quizzes, Napoleon Hill vintage audio and just released video, articles from the Think and Grow Rich and PMA Adviser newsletters, class discussion questions, journal writing assignments and, other activities that help reinforce the principle being studied. Each student in the class has a personalized relationship with a fully accredited and approved instructor for Napoleon Hill Distance Learning Courses. The class concludes with an assignment dealing with an individualized plan for personal success.

It is because we sincerely feel that every reader of Think and Grow Rich should go on into this post graduate course, that we take the liberty here of giving a few brief side lights upon this brilliant work. Napoleon Hill’s Course presents the true Philosophy upon which all lasting success is built. Ideas, when translated into intelligent plans of action, are the beginning of all successful achievement. So this course proceeds to show you how to create practical ideas for every human need. It does it in easy-to-understand lessons. Napoleon Hill spent the better part of twenty-five years in perfecting this Philosophy of Success.

During the long years he has worked on it, some parts or the whole of it, have been reviewed and praised by many of the greatest Americans of our times. Among them are included four Presidents of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Warren G. Harding, Wm. H. Taft; Thomas Edison, Luther Burbank, Wm. J. Wrigley, Alexander Graham Bell, Judge E. H. Gary, Cyrus H. K. Curtis, Edward Bok, E.M. Statler — dozens of glowing names in Politics, Finance, Education, Invention.

Don’t waste your own precious years blindly searching for the hidden road to the heights. Profit by the dearly brought experience of America’s leaders. Over 500 great and prominent men of America were minutely analyzed — their methods, motives, strategy — to find out the secrets that put them on top. No matter whether you are rich or poor — you have one asset as great as the richest man living — and that is TIME. But with each setting sun you become one day older, and have one day less in which to attain the success and wealth you desire. Thousands of progressive people throughout the North American continent have realized this mighty truth, and have sought the help so clearly and inspiringly taught in Napoleon Hill. You cannot afford to let day after day slip into eternity, without getting possession of this course. You will profit greatly from the lessons in Think and Grow Rich. You will take even more brilliant and gratifying rewards from this course. The cost is trifling; the benefits are tremendous.

“I am a graduate of my Grandfather’s philosophy. I studied Napoleon Hill for years, reading Think and Grow Rich now eight times. I even used his philosophy to change my life —twice! In spite of this, the course pulled the philosophy all together for me and gave me a deeper understanding!”

Vintage Essays By Judy Williamson, Director of the Napoleon Hill World Learning Center at Purdue University Calumnet

Dear Readers,

Almost any book on self-help will give you another unique view, and if you remember learning your ABCs and multiplication tables, you no doubt did so by repetition. It is not likely that you can improve your station in life just by being exposed to self-help or inspirational literature, without continuous study of successful individuals.

If you want to learn what other successful people have done, you can do so by looking at the material that is readily available. However, you need to always be aware of not just what the material is, but how you can use it to have a better life.

In a few minutes, I can show you how to become a millionaire without winning a lottery. But the problem is that about 98 out of 100 people lack discipline.

What I would like you to remember, whether you are reading this material or material from one of the other good writers, today is that it is not what you acquire or accomplish in your life that makes you successful. Becoming a millionaire or multimillionaire may engender a good feeling, and reaching any other worthwhile goal may be very satisfying to you, but the important point you should plant in your subconscious is that what you become during the process is what should matter most. When he wrote, “Success is a journey, not a destination,” author Ben Sweetland probably said it best.

I invite you to take a journey with Napoleon Hill by signing up for the course that he and W. Clement Stone put together as their final masterpiece and gift to the world. You will feel the spirit of Napoleon Hill guiding you through each principle as you go through each lesson. You will be required to participate in discussions with other students and further assimilate the success principles in practical ways. Sign up today, “Do it now!”

I wish you the best,

DEFINITENESS OF PURPOSE
by Napoleon Hill

When you sign up for the Distance Learning course be sure to carve out some quality time in the mornings. “Have coffee with Napoleon Hill” before you begin your busy day. This will set the tone for the rest of the day and keep you on track for the completion of the course.

Definiteness of purpose is the starting point of all successful achievement, and it is available to everyone without money and without price except the personal initiative with which to embrace it and use it. Unless you know what you want from life and are determined to get it, you will be forced to accept from life the mere crumbs left by the more fortunate who knew where they were going and had a plan for getting there.

Your major responsibility right now is to find out what you desire in life, where you are going, and what you will do when you get there. This is one responsibility that no one but you can assume. But if you want to rise above mediocrity, you must remember that success begins through Definiteness of Purpose!

Four important things to keep in mind when setting a goal:

Write down your goal. You will crystallize your thinking. The very act of thinking as you write will create an indelible impression in your memory.

Give yourself a deadline. Specify a time for achieving your objective. This is important in motivating you: to set out in the direction of your goal and keep moving towards it.

Set your standards high. Now there seems to be a direct relationship between ease in achieving a goal and the strength of your motives.

And the higher you set your major goal, generally speaking, the more concentrated will be the effort you make to achieve it.

The reason-logic will make it mandatory that you at least aim at an intermediate objective as well as an immediate one. So aim higher. And then have immediate and intermediate steps leading towards its achievement.

This may stimulate your thinking! Where will you be and what will you be doing ten years from today if you keep doing what you are doing now?

Aim high. It is a peculiar thing that no more effort is required to aim high in life, to demand prosperity and abundance, than is required to accept misery and poverty.

You have to be bold enough to ask of life more than you may, right now, feel you are worth because it is an observable fact that people tend to rise to meet demands that are put upon them.

While it is exceedingly desirable that you blueprint your program from beginning to end, this is not always feasible. One doesn’t always know all the answers between the beginning of a great enterprise or journey and its ending. But if you know where you are and where you want to be and you start from where you are to get to where you want to be, you will, if you keep properly motivated, move forward step by step until you get there.

The Labyrinth of Cosmic Habitforce
Rafael Aguayo sends us this feedback after his experience in the labyrinth:

Rafael Aguayo at the center of the labyrinth at St. James Cathedral, 66 East Huron Street in Chicago, Illinois.

“Thank you for sharing with me the exercise of the labyrinth meditation that corresponds with Napoleon Hill’s principle of Cosmic Habitforce. For me, it was an incredible meditation, because my body concentrated on just following the path and nothing else. Being obedient to the direction of the labyrinth allowed me to free my mind and give greater priority to my imagination on how to improve my projects. It was like walking without a big load, and not worrying about decisions but trusting that the path would take me to the center. Upon reaching the center of the labyrinth I just thanked God for his guidance, and I placed it all in his hands. When I began my return journey I just continued with great gratitude. I Experienced great peace and harmony in my whole being. I will continue to look for labyrinths with the labyrinth locator you suggested! To think that this incredible journey and experience all began with Napoleon Hill’s distance learning.”
Very thankful,
Rafael Aguayo

What Students are Saying about Napoleon Hill’s PMA: Science of Success

“Since I began this course I have started to read more on a regular basis. I take the time to meditate and to focus on my definite major purpose. I no longer let the fear of poverty and negative thoughts fill my day. I am more conscious of my thoughts and the information I take in. I am on the right path and if I continue to work on myself as I have done through Napoleon Hill’s Distance Learning I believe that I can reach all my goals.”
– Vedran Popovic

“Learning and making these principles a part of my life will enable me to teach this philosophy to the youth of this nation. I have learned to eliminate undesirable habits.”
– Robert Butler

“Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve” is a powerful quote, often attributed to other great leaders. It’s actually one of Napoleon Hill’s best quotes. His seminal work has been modeled and repositioned by many popular authors and speakers in the personal growth and development field.
– Linda Arnold

“So, initiative and taking action are clearly important. Hill, Goethals, and Hubbard certainly thought so and B.C. Forbes and Clement Stone as well. Yes, I took the initiative to change my life and I took the action that I needed to achieve success but, again, that was not and is not the secret given to me in Think and Grow Rich. It was just part of the recipe that we all know so well. Something else did.

When I read Think and Grow Rich for the second time so long ago, I realized that I held the recipe for success in my hands. It was the key to everything — financial security, personal relationships, happiness … it could be used to achieve anything of value. It could be done by anybody and it could be done by me. There was just one catch. It’s up to me.”
-Dr. J.B. Hill

“I remember the first time we received email correspondence from Dr. JB Hill. We could not believe it was Napoleon Hill’s grandson! He was sincerely interested in going through his Grandfather’s PMA: Science of Success course. He signed up and that began an amicable relationship that eventually led to him being placed on the board for the Napoleon Hill Foundation. He found great value in the material and he knew that if he was to benefit from it he had to actually go through the process himself. I know that you will find great value in this pinnacle of Napoleon Hill’s philosophy of success.”

The Time Is Now!
by Jennifer Janechek

There are numerous opportunities for developing our minds—for example, reading books or listening to podcasts that inspire personal growth. Another method that is particularly salient right now is distance learning programs, such as the Positive Mental Attitude: Science of Success online course offered by the Napoleon Hill Foundation. Structured around the 17 success principles forming Hill’s success system, it provides a framework for students to better recognize and appropriate life’s opportunities. The best way to maximize the value you get from Hill’s achievement philosophy is to study it in depth—continually revisiting his writings, forming book clubs to discuss them, and engaging in study programs such as the Foundation’s PMA online course.

In his 1952 speech “Maker of Miracle Men,” now collected in Napoleon Hill’s Greatest Speeches, Hill declares, “I think if there was ever a time in this country when men and women need to recognize the power of their own minds, when they need to overcome frustration and fear, that time is now.” Referencing the widespread fear, worry, and poverty consciousness sweeping America at the time, he implores his audience to take control of their destiny by redirecting their thoughts, saying, “Let’s get our minds…fixed upon a definite goal so big and so outstanding that we’ll have no time to think about these things we don’t want.” How relevant is that directive today, when so many people find themselves drifting—borne along by the current of popular opinion, coasting away from their purpose, and lacking the freedom of thought necessary to achieve success?

Beginning with the principle of definiteness of purpose, Hill’s success philosophy offers an alternative to the modern malady of aimlessness—a way to develop mental habits that attracts inspiration and opportunity, create organized plans for attaining our chief aim, and take action to claim the success that is rightfully ours. His 17 principles of individual achievement have made more millionaires than any other success system. Beyond monetary riches, Hill’s success philosophy helps those who implement it to build stronger relationships, increase personal initiative, boost self-confidence, expand their influence, and cultivate the ultimate wealth—peace of mind. It provides the impetus and direction that men and women need to find focus within chaos and advantage within adversity. Just look at the number of entrepreneurs, thought leaders, and cultural icons in the present-day who cite Hill’s principles of individual achievement as a major reason for their success.

The truly successful among us recognize the importance of replacing passivity with purposeful action. Indeed, as Hill suggests in Think and Grow Rich, the primary cure for the fears that derail people from success is decisiveness. Hill’s achievement philosophy offers you this remedy in spades. W. Clement Stone, founder of a multibillion-dollar insurance empire and dedicated practitioner of Hill’s achievement principles, explains that “the science of success philosophy gets men to act.” So while the average human being will succumb to procrastination in various forms, we have the opportunity to choose a different path marked by intentionality and action.

To do this, we must become conscientious stewards of our time. Time is a nonrenewable resource, and yet how many of us squander it on activities that take us further away from the things we most want in life? If you have ever shifted your focus from a project to your social media feed, only to emerge 20 minutes later feeling mentally fuzzy and anxious, you know exactly what I mean. And on the opposite end of the spectrum, busyness can serve as another means of procrastination: we can drift further into the fog of mediocrity by saturating our schedules with tasks that move us sideways rather than forward. Instead, we should use our time to invest in ourselves and the mental resources that will prime us for success.

Hill’s mentor Andrew Carnegie said, “The man who procrastinates soon loses confidence and does little or nothing worthwhile.” Today, let that be an encouragement to you to take action and invest your time in your most precious asset: your mind. It is key to your success and happiness!

Andrew Carnegie’s Mental Dynamite

by Napoleon Hill

Based on a series of booklets written by bestselling motivational writer Napoleon Hill, Andrew Carnegie’s Mental Dynamite outlines the importance of three essential principles of success: self-discipline, learning from defeat, and the Golden Rule applied.

In 1908, Napoleon Hill met industrialist Andrew Carnegie for what he believed would be a short interview for an article. Instead, Carnegie spent hours detailing his principles of success to the young magazine reporter. He then challenged Hill to devote 20 years to collating a proven formula that would propel people of all backgrounds to happiness, harmony, and prosperity. Hill accepted the challenge, which he distilled in the perennial bestseller Think and Grow Rich.

Now, more than a century later, the Napoleon Hill Foundation is releasing this epic conversation to remind people that there are simple solutions to the problems troubling us most, everything from relationships and education to homelessness and even democracy. This is revealed in three major principles: self-discipline, which shows how the six departments of the mind may be organized and directed to any end; learning from defeat, which describes how defeat can be made to yield “the seed of an equivalent benefit” and how to turn it into a stepping-stone to greater achievement; and the Golden Rule applied for developing rewarding relationships, peace of mind, and a strengthened consciousness.

Each chapter draws on Carnegie’s words and advice as inspiration, with annotations by Napoleon Hill scholar James Whittaker explaining why they are essential for reaching your goals and prospering—for you, your family, and your community.
