A System of Success

Sign up today!

Dear Student of Napoleon Hill,

This online distance learning course presents and examines the principles of success researched and developed by Dr. Napoleon Hill and others. It provides a framework for students to better understand life’s opportunities and the need for definiteness of purpose.

The class is based on and structured around Hill’s 17 Principles of Success. Each lesson focuses on one principle and contains online reading assignments, points to ponder, chapter quizzes, Napoleon Hill vintage audio and just released video, articles from the Think and Grow Rich and PMA Adviser newsletters, class discussion questions, journal writing assignments and, other activities that help reinforce the principle being studied. Each student in the class has a personalized relationship with a fully accredited and approved instructor for Napoleon Hill Distance Learning Courses. The class concludes with an assignment dealing with an individualized plan for personal success.

It is because we sincerely feel that every reader of Think and Grow Rich should go on into this post graduate course, that we take the liberty here of giving a few brief side lights upon this brilliant work. Napoleon Hill’s Course presents the true Philosophy upon which all lasting success is built. Ideas, when translated into intelligent plans of action, are the beginning of all successful achievement. So this course proceeds to show you how to create practical ideas for every human need. It does it in easy-to-understand lessons. Napoleon Hill spent the better part of twenty-five years in perfecting this Philosophy of Success.

During the long years he has worked on it, some parts or the whole of it, have been reviewed and praised by many of the greatest Americans of our times. Among them are included four Presidents of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Warren G. Harding, Wm. H. Taft; Thomas Edison, Luther Burbank, Wm. J. Wrigley, Alexander Graham Bell, Judge E. H. Gary, Cyrus H. K. Curtis, Edward Bok, E.M. Statler — dozens of glowing names in Politics, Finance, Education, Invention.

Don’t waste your own precious years blindly searching for the hidden road to the heights. Profit by the dearly brought experience of America’s leaders. Over 500 great and prominent men of America were minutely analyzed — their methods, motives, strategy — to find out the secrets that put them on top. No matter whether you are rich or poor — you have one asset as great as the richest man living — and that is TIME. But with each setting sun you become one day older, and have one day less in which to attain the success and wealth you desire. Thousands of progressive people throughout the North American continent have realized this mighty truth, and have sought the help so clearly and inspiringly taught in Napoleon Hill. You cannot afford to let day after day slip into eternity, without getting possession of this course. You will profit greatly from the lessons in Think and Grow Rich. You will take even more brilliant and gratifying rewards from this course. The cost is trifling; the benefits are tremendous.

“I am a graduate of my Grandfather’s philosophy. I studied Napoleon Hill for years, reading Think and Grow Rich now eight times. I even used his philosophy to change my life —twice! In spite of this, the course pulled the philosophy all together for me and gave me a deeper understanding!”

Vintage Essays By Judy Williamson, Director of the Napoleon Hill World Learning Center at Purdue University Calumnet

Dear Readers,

Be definite in everything you do, and never leave unfinished thoughts in your mind. Form the habit of reaching definite decisions on all subjects.

From being around Mr. Stone (which I considered a privilege), I learned that he spoke of decisions. Decisions were important, but once a decision was reached, then a proper course of action was fundamental to success. You would get the same advice from Stone’s writings: action was critical if you were to travel the success journey.

Opportunities are often all around us, and sometimes the only decision to make is which one you want to pursue. Remember what Earl Nightingale once said, “We can do anything we want to do but we can’t do everything.” So study your opportunities and decide which ones you want to take after you have enough facts to go ahead.

You are the only person who can make you a success
or a failure; the decision is yours and yours alone.

Singleness of purpose means making a decision to follow a specified course, profession, or work in one’s life. The purpose becomes an object that you must keep in view and continue striving toward not only when the going is easy, but also when the course is difficult. That is what the Apostle Paul was referring to when he said, “This one thing I do.” This purpose became Paul’s life work, meaning that all his energy was directed toward that accomplishment, and when he said, “I press toward the mark for the prize,” he simply meant that this was his purpose in life and that he had a will and determination that would not accept defeat.

Perhaps the wise man said it best, when his advice was, “Let thine eyes look right on, and let thy eyelids look straight before thee. Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. Turn not to the right hand nor to the left.” You could not find better advice with regard to the importance of singleness of purpose.

Every day we have the opportunity to make good DECISIONS. Decide to stay focused on the opportunity of your higher purpose.

Have a great weekend as we in the United States of America celebrate our country’s greatest DECISION, the decision to be a free and independent nation. Decide to be free to follow your own higher purpose!

I wish you the best,

The greatest decision of all time, as far as any American citizen is concerned, was reached in Philadelphia, July 4, 1776, when fifty-six men signed their names to a document, which they well knew would bring freedom to all Americans, or leave every one of the fifty-six hanging from a gallows! You have heard of this famous document, but may not have drawn from it the great lesson in personal achievement it so plainly taught. We all remember the date of this momentous decision, but few of us realize what courage that decision required. We remember our history, as it was taught; we remember dates, and the names of the men who fought; we remember Valley Forge, and Yorktown; we remember George Washington, and Lord Cornwallis. But we know little of the real forces back of these names, dates, and places. We know still less of that intangible POWER, which insured us freedom long before Washington’s armies reached Yorktown.

We read the history of the revolution and falsely imagine that George Washington was the Father of our Country, that it was he who won our freedom, while the truth is—Washington was only an accessory after the fact, because victory for his armies had been insured long before Lord Cornwallis surrendered. This is not intended to rob Washington of any of the glory he so richly merited. Its purpose, rather, is to give greater attention to the astounding POWER that was the real cause of his victory.

It is nothing short of tragedy that the writers of history have missed, entirely, even the slightest reference to the irresistible POWER, which gave birth and freedom to the nation destined to set up new standards of independence for all the peoples of the earth. I say it is a tragedy, because it is the self-same POWER which must be used by every individual who surmounts the difficulties of Life, and forces Life to pay the price asked.

Let us briefly review the events which gave birth to this POWER. The story begins with an incident in Boston, March 5, 1770. British soldiers were patrolling the streets, by their presence, openly threatening the citizens. The colonists resented armed men marching in their midst. They began to express their resentment openly, hurling stones as well as epithets, at the marching soldiers, until the commanding officer gave orders, “Fix bayonets…. Charge!”

The battle was on. It resulted in the death and injury of many. The incident aroused such resentment that the Provincial Assembly (made up of prominent colonists), called a meeting for the purpose of taking definite action. Two of the members of that Assembly were, John Hancock, and Samuel Adams—LONG LIVE THEIR NAMES! They spoke up courageously, and declared that a move must be made to eject all British soldiers from Boston.

Remember this—a DECISION, in the minds of two men, might properly be called the beginning of the freedom which we, of the United States now enjoy. Remember, too, that the DECISION of these two men called for FAITH, and COURAGE, because it was dangerous.

Before the Assembly adjourned, Samuel Adams was appointed to call on the Governor of the Province, Hutchinson, and demand the withdrawal of the British troops.

The request was granted, the troops were removed from Boston, but the incident was not closed. It had caused a situation destined to change the entire trend of civilization. Strange, is it not, how the great changes, such as the American Revolution, and the World War, often have their beginnings in circumstances which seem unimportant? It is interesting, also, to observe that these important changes usually begin in the form of a DEFINITE DECISION in the minds of a relatively small number of people. Few of us know the history of our country well enough to realize that John Hancock, Samuel Adams, and Richard Henry Lee (of the Province of Virginia) were the real Fathers of our country.

An American in Paris
by Jim Stovall

I just returned from spending a week in France. I am pleased to report that springtime in Paris is everything it is reputed to be. I would highly recommend the experience. I have always considered myself to be a proud American, but it took a trip abroad to give me a new and even deeper appreciation for America and Americans.

While in Paris, I took a day trip to Normandy. I visited Omaha Beach where our American troops landed on D-Day. A lot of attention has been brought to this historic event in the aftermath of the movie Saving Private Ryan. I had studied a lot about the Normandy Invasion and thought I had a good grasp of what transpired, but when I stood atop the cliffs on the French coast among the concrete barricades which had held the German artillery, I was awe struck.

I am convinced that the task of landing on that beach and getting to the top of the cliffs is among the greatest endeavors in the annals of human achievement. When you retrace the actual steps of the American young men who were there on that fateful day, you are struck with a sense of amazement that any of them actually survived.

Atop the cliffs where the Germans had their fortified bunkers, today is the home of a massive cemetery. I walked through many acres of white marble crosses, realizing that each represents someone’s son, father, or husband. All of us value our freedom, but the value of anything can only be measured against the price paid to obtain it. Only when we remember that real people, much like you and me, paid the ultimate price can we truly begin to understand the gift we have been given.

On that day back in 1944, the world was at a crossroads. Some very special Americans performed an unbelievable task that liberated France, all of Europe, and broke the back of the Third Reich. That was the time and place that the Allied Forces determined to make a last stand for freedom.

The next time you sit in a darkened theatre or watch a video at home of Saving Private Ryan, please be reminded that there were thousands of Private Ryans and, over the ensuing decades and for generations to come, they gave you and me a priceless gift. May we all rededicate our efforts to take advantage of their gift and their sacrifice.

Today’s the day!

Master-Key to Riches

Self-Confidence Formula

by Napoleon Hill

Your formula to build a strong sense of self-worth so that you can better recognize opportunity, take action on your dreams, and enhance your resilience.

A lack of self-confidence is one of the greatest maladies of today’s world, one that is responsible for the rampant helplessness, lack of self-control, aimlessness, procrastination, and despair that characterize modern society. But as the venerable steel magnate Andrew Carnegie emphasized to Hill, “Confidence is a state of mind, necessary to succeed, and the starting point of developing self-confidence is definiteness of purpose.”

The time for self-doubt and self-criticism is over. Your faith in yourself and your abilities determines whether you fail or succeed. Napoleon Hill’s Self-Confidence Formula enables you to boost your self-confidence through the application of Hill’s strategies for controlling your thoughts. By implementing these principles, you will not only be able to operate at a higher plane of thought and action—attracting more opportunities, gaining influence, and strengthening relationships—but you will also be able to instill this critical quality in others.

Napoleon Hill’s Self-Confidence Formula gives you the keys to success and fulfillment by equipping you to:

• unlearn fears, insecurities, and limitations acquired in childhood and adolescence
• condition your mind to believe in the certainty of your success
• take bold, confident action on your definite chief aim
• conquer your inferiority complex through the mastermind principle
• build the self-reliance and self-esteem of today’s youth

You are now on the journey to confident, purposeful living. As you implement Hill’s principles, you will cultivate a state of mind primed to accept the abundance reserved for you.
