Positive Mental Attitude:
A System of Success

Sign up today!

Dear Student of Napoleon Hill,

This online distance learning course presents and examines the principles of success researched and developed by Dr. Napoleon Hill and others. It provides a framework for students to better understand life’s opportunities and the need for definiteness of purpose.

The class is based on and structured around Hill’s 17 Principles of Success. Each lesson focuses on one principle and contains online reading assignments, points to ponder, chapter quizzes, Napoleon Hill vintage audio and just released video, articles from the Think and Grow Rich and PMA Adviser newsletters, class discussion questions, journal writing assignments and, other activities that help reinforce the principle being studied. Each student in the class has a personalized relationship with a fully accredited and approved instructor for Napoleon Hill Distance Learning Courses. The class concludes with an assignment dealing with an individualized plan for personal success.

It is because we sincerely feel that every reader of Think and Grow Rich should go on into this post graduate course, that we take the liberty here of giving a few brief side lights upon this brilliant work. Napoleon Hill’s Course presents the true Philosophy upon which all lasting success is built. Ideas, when translated into intelligent plans of action, are the beginning of all successful achievement. So this course proceeds to show you how to create practical ideas for every human need. It does it in easy-to-understand lessons. Napoleon Hill spent the better part of twenty-five years in perfecting this Philosophy of Success.

During the long years he has worked on it, some parts or the whole of it, have been reviewed and praised by many of the greatest Americans of our times. Among them are included four Presidents of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Warren G. Harding, Wm. H. Taft; Thomas Edison, Luther Burbank, Wm. J. Wrigley, Alexander Graham Bell, Judge E. H. Gary, Cyrus H. K. Curtis, Edward Bok, E.M. Statler — dozens of glowing names in Politics, Finance, Education, Invention.

Don’t waste your own precious years blindly searching for the hidden road to the heights. Profit by the dearly brought experience of America’s leaders. Over 500 great and prominent men of America were minutely analyzed — their methods, motives, strategy — to find out the secrets that put them on top. No matter whether you are rich or poor — you have one asset as great as the richest man living — and that is TIME. But with each setting sun you become one day older, and have one day less in which to attain the success and wealth you desire. Thousands of progressive people throughout the North American continent have realized this mighty truth, and have sought the help so clearly and inspiringly taught in Napoleon Hill. You cannot afford to let day after day slip into eternity, without getting possession of this course. You will profit greatly from the lessons in Think and Grow Rich. You will take even more brilliant and gratifying rewards from this course. The cost is trifling; the benefits are tremendous.

“I am a graduate of my Grandfather’s philosophy. I studied Napoleon Hill for years, reading Think and Grow Rich now eight times. I even used his philosophy to change my life —twice! In spite of this, the course pulled the philosophy all together for me and gave me a deeper understanding!”

Vintage Essays By Judy Williamson, Director of the Napoleon Hill World Learning Center at Purdue University Calumnet

Dear Readers,

In his classic Think and Grow Rich!, first published in 1937, Hill said, “There are no limitations to the mind except those we acknowledge. Both poverty and riches are the offspring of thought.”

True wealth consists of ideas, not money. Money is only the material medium that is exchanged for ideas. Paper money in itself—yen, euros, or another currency—is worth nothing; it is the idea behind it that give it value. The whole point is that you should not go outside to seek wealth. Wealth lies within you. Use your mind to think in a constructive manner. Perhaps this is why Napoleon Hill placed economic security last in his list of the twelve riches of life.

It is a fact that we can never express anything that we do not first have in our minds. If there is a secret, this is it—all power, all riches, and all success must first be thoughts built into our own minds.

Both riches and poverty are truly products of the human mind. First we have a thought, then we have a plan for accomplishment, then we proceed to take action and persist until the desired results are obtained.

You are the only person who can make you a success or a failure; the decision is yours and yours alone.

Remember that the more you have to offer to society, the more riches will flow to you. Our ability to receive what we desire is located within us, and the only limits are in our capacity to receive it.

I wish you the best,

Number one of the Twelve Great Riches is a Positive Mental Attitude. All riches, of whatsoever nature, begin as a state of mind; and let us remember that your state of mind is the one and only thing over which you have complete, absolute and unchallengeable control. You can best judge the value of this right to control and direct your own mind by remembering that it is a gift of the Creator by which man was provided with the means by which he may control his earthly destiny and make of it whatever he pleases.

Man’s power to control and direct his own mind to ends of his own choice is his greatest asset, and if he embraces this power and directs it, through a positive mental attitude, he will attract all of the other eleven factors which make one rich. A positive mental attitude is important because it attracts to one the things and circumstances one desires, whereas a negative mental attitude attracts the things and circumstances one does not desire. I have mentioned this fact in prior broadcasts, but it is so important it bears repeating.

A positive mental attitude attracts the riches of true friendship. And the riches one finds in the hope of future achievement. And the riches to be found in a labor of one’s own choice, where one may give expression to the highest plane of one’s soul. And the riches of one’s home, business and occupational relationships. And the riches of freedom from fear and worry. And the riches of song and laughter. And the riches of enduring faith in Infinite Intelligence which places one in harmony with the laws of the universe. Yes, these and all other riches begin with a positive mental attitude. Is it any wonder, therefore, that a positive mental attitude takes first place in the list of the Twelve Great Riches?

Number two is Sound Physical Health. Sound health begins with a sound health consciousness, and this is produced by a mind that is positive; a mind that thinks in terms of sound health and not in terms of illness. The hypochondriac—that is, one who suffers with imaginary illness—makes himself ill by the expression of a negative mental attitude.

“As a man thinketh in his own heart so is he.” And this applies to health and all other factors which affect one’s life. Believe you will have sound health and you will follow sensible habits that will lead to sound health. Believe you will be successful and you will do the things which will make you successful. You see, when an all wise Creator gave us complete control over but one thing, our own mind, he knew that with this power of the mind we could create or attract to us everything we might desire or need.

Number three is Harmony in Human Relationships. Harmony with others begins with harmony with one’s self. For it is true that there are profound benefits available to those who comply with Shakespeare’s admonition: “To thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man.” After one develops the habit of harmony within himself he will then find it easy to relate himself harmoniously to his Creator, the members of his family, his associates in his occupation, his neighbors, and the strangers with whom he meets. Harmony within one’s self attracts the circumstances and things and people one desires. Disharmony drives these away and attracts the things one does not desire.

Number four is Freedom from Fear. No person who fears anything is a free and independent person such as the Creator intended that all of us should be. Fear is the tool of the evil forces of the world, and you may be sure that wherever this carrion crow hovers there is something dead that should be buried. The seven most common fears which curse mankind are the fear of Poverty, the fear of Criticism, the fear of Ill Health, the fear of Loss of Love of Someone, the fear of Loss of Liberty, the fear of Old Age, and the fear of Death. And all of these are man-made fears which can be mastered with a positive mental attitude.

Number five is the Hope of Future Achievement. The greatest of all forms of happiness comes from the hope of some as yet unattained desirable aim or purpose. It is this hope which has been responsible for all human progress, and it is the means by which one may keep on keeping on, with good spirits, when the going is hard and success looks far distant. Poor indeed is the person who cannot and does not look to the future with hope that he will become the person he would like to be or attain the purposes he most desires, and with the belief that he will attain those purposes.

Without hope, expressed by the signers of the Declaration of Independence, there would be no free America today. Without hope there would have been no vaccine for the mastery of polio. Without hope on the part of the faithful there would be no civilization, and we would still be living in the dark ages of cruelty and fear. Truly, hope is the salvation of the individual, the promise of a greater future for all of us.

Number six is the Capacity for Faith. Faith is the connecting link between the mind of man and the great universal reservoir of Infinite Intelligence. It is the fertile soil of the garden of the human mind wherein one may plant the seeds of one’s desires with full assurance that they will germinate and grow until they produce all of the riches one desires. Faith is the eternal elixir which gives creative power and action to the impulses of human thought. It is the basis of all miracles, and many of the mysteries which cannot be explained by ordinary logic or past experience. Faith is the power which transmutes the ordinary energies of thought into their spiritual equivalents. And it is the only means by which the Cosmic Forces of Infinite Intelligence may be appropriated to the uses of man.

Overcoming Fears with PMA

Today I was in Milano, Italy, for a company meeting for the first time in more than a year and a half. And I had a chance to see my colleagues in person! It is a wonderful feeling after having been restricted to zoom meetings all this time.

Maria Luisa and I happily settled down to our old routine when we come to Milano, we have a quick lunch at our favorite spot, a quaint gastro bar next to company headquarters.

We engaged in small talk while we waited for our salmon tartare but I noticed that something is not right in her eyes. I have only a little time to inquire before we soon have to go back to our meeting. So I ask “What’s wrong my dear friend Maria Luisa?”

Maria Luisa pulls out an old Journalist ID card with her picture, a very attractive young woman some years ago and she starts to talk.

“You see Daniele I have been losing sleep thinking about getting old, well, during the day also, and I am really frightened of old age. You know it means ill health, and that is terrible because I wonder whether I will be able to afford doctors, hospitals. Also I am concerned about what people will think of me being old and poor and sick.

What if I lose the love of my family and finally what terrifies me most is – what if I die, that is terrible, and I am scared, very scared, and very stressed.”

Well our meal is finished, the glass of wine also, I have just the time of a coffee to answer to Maria Luisa and give her some sort of encouragement.

My dear friend these are just fears, think of them as enemies that come from outside, remember the song: “Confront you enemies, avoid them if you can, so look at them for what they are.”

I recall Napoleon Hill’s advice. Death is something that sooner or later happens to everybody, there is nothing you can do about that. But what we can do is take control of our thoughts and direct them to think more positively with gratitude for what we already have. Focus on what you do have now – the wonderful gift life! Why waste your time thinking about something that you cannot control? Use your Positive Mental Attitude and enjoy your life.

Getting old is inevitable, but think of it as a tradeoff. Your former energy and beauty now is wisdom and experience and with these two powerful allies it is never too late to bloom again.

Also don’t forget we are living in a free country, where we have no limits to our liberty, no restrictions to move, speech, beliefs, run a business, and get a job. Isn’t that great wealth?

Take care of your health as your most precious asset, follow the rhythm of work, relax and play, keep your body fit and your mind positive.

Listen to criticism as a blessing. I know it hurts, but bear in mind these people make their judgments on a limited knowledge of facts, so they may misjudge. But employ a different perspective. This can be very valuable for you to grow. Don’t throw away that valuable opportunity.

The fear of poverty is a vicious thing. Keep your purpose ever before you, what do you want to achieve! Be determinate with a Positive Mental Attitude to get rid of poverty and follow you purpose. Be ambitious and soon or later Infinite Intelligence will bring you the coveted results.

And I know, as the last and probably the most difficult fear to master is the fear of loss of love. This can paralyze your mind. Just switch your love to everybody, to your staff that helps you run your business, to your customers that provide your income, to the lady that is bringing our coffee. What you give will be returned to you multiplied along with piece of mind.

Our coffee is finished. It’s time to go back to our meeting but just one last thing about fears. Give me one good reason why fear should rule our mind. Napoleon Hill tells us that we can control and direct the thoughts in our mind. With a Positive Mental Attitude you can “Direct your thoughts, control your emotions and ordain your destiny.”

I live in the small Italian town of Lucca, with my wife Paola. I have no children, and recently a black and white cat took over my house.

I learned from my parents that a breakthrough in life is possible as long you have a purpose and the self-discipline to take action.

I regained direction and purpose when I started to study and apply the principles of success by Dr. Napoleon Hill. My personal and professional life improved greatly. I had greater clarity and drive to achieve my goals.

I owe much to this philosophy of success and I am honored to be a Napoleon Hill Foundation Certified Instructor. This philosophy helped me, now I can help others find great opportunity.

ADVERSITY & ADVANTAGE
(coming in November 2021)

An inspiring guide to facing difficult times with strength and courage—the only true path to success—from the greatest voice in personal success literature, Napoleon Hill.

This newly annotated work from the Napoleon Hill Foundation collects a series of radio interviews Napoleon Hill gave as the world healed from the Second World War. With the world still recovering from the wounds, physical and mental, that accumulated from the conflict, Napoleon Hill felt that he could not enjoy retirement without coming forward one last time to deliver this series of talks. Hill’s message was that success cannot be achieved without failure. Strength and innovation in the face of adversity is the only true success—exactly the kind of message that many readers will want to hear after a global pandemic has caused upset and conflict around the world today. Hill gives his advice for conditioning the mind for success, identifying the three great markers of failure, and more, in this valuable and inspiring guide.

Master-Key to Riches

Self-Confidence Formula

by Napoleon Hill

Your formula to build a strong sense of self-worth so that you can better recognize opportunity, take action on your dreams, and enhance your resilience.

A lack of self-confidence is one of the greatest maladies of today’s world, one that is responsible for the rampant helplessness, lack of self-control, aimlessness, procrastination, and despair that characterize modern society. But as the venerable steel magnate Andrew Carnegie emphasized to Hill, “Confidence is a state of mind, necessary to succeed, and the starting point of developing self-confidence is definiteness of purpose.”

The time for self-doubt and self-criticism is over. Your faith in yourself and your abilities determines whether you fail or succeed. Napoleon Hill’s Self-Confidence Formula enables you to boost your self-confidence through the application of Hill’s strategies for controlling your thoughts. By implementing these principles, you will not only be able to operate at a higher plane of thought and action—attracting more opportunities, gaining influence, and strengthening relationships—but you will also be able to instill this critical quality in others.

Napoleon Hill’s Self-Confidence Formula gives you the keys to success and fulfillment by equipping you to:

• unlearn fears, insecurities, and limitations acquired in childhood and adolescence
• condition your mind to believe in the certainty of your success
• take bold, confident action on your definite chief aim
• conquer your inferiority complex through the mastermind principle
• build the self-reliance and self-esteem of today’s youth

You are now on the journey to confident, purposeful living. As you implement Hill’s principles, you will cultivate a state of mind primed to accept the abundance reserved for you.
