“Man is not a creature of circumstances, but a creator of circumstances. He makes his own circumstances, his own opportunities.”
~Napoleon Hill

At the Napoleon Hill Foundation, we have books that have been published by over 250 foreign publishers. In each contract, our copyright attorney adds a statement that asks each publisher to send us two copies of their finished book. While we cannot read each different language, we know that the books show our copyright in English.

In today’s mail, we received two copies of Think and Grow Rich for Women by Sharon Lechter that has been published by Xiamen University Press and has just been released to the people of China. Mystar Agency, and Ms. Jerry Ho, a Chinese agent handled the contract with Xiamen. Though we have received thousands of foreign books, I still get a thrill out of each new book.

This version of Think and Grow Rich for Women had a picture of a woman’s high heel shoe on the cover to signify it was a book written for women by a woman.

Sharon Lechter’s book appeals to women all over the world because while we may have different languages, religions, or even be a different race, all humans want the same basic necessities in life such as adequate food, clothing, shelter, and the desire to protect and provide for our families.

China has been a wonderful market for the books of the non-profit Napoleon Hill Foundation and has been an excellent example of how Napoleon Hill’s success principles are continuing to spread around the world.

The best to you at whatever you do!

Vintage Essays By Judy Williamson, Director of the Napoleon Hill World Learning Center at Purdue University Calumnet

I am seeking. I am striving. I am in it with all my heart.
~ Vincent Van Gogh

Dear Readers:

Learning to control your emotions leads to the direction that you will take in life. Most people are too easily swayed by their feelings instead of their thoughts. Unless head and heart are combined in decision making, the results can be disastrous. Whether or not others view you as callous or hard-hearted makes little difference if the end result you foresee and expect is what occurs. Emotions can be tricksters and they are better off subdued and allowed in only for a stabilizing effect rather than given the run of the show.

With all that being said, we all know it is difficult to control our emotions in times of stress, grief, and in most human relationships. When the obvious happens, we need to remind ourselves that we can do the most good for everyone involved if we stay on our projected course. Without a purpose and a plan, Dr. Hill reminds us that we are like a ship without a rudder. Sailing everywhere and going nowhere. Those travelers are the drifters in life that he speaks about but he wants us to focus on being a non-drifter – a doer.

Benjamin Franklin reminds us that moderation in all things is what we should strive for in this life. Being too much this way or too much another way moves us off-center and we soon lose our balance. Balance is good and out-of-balance is not so good and may appear to be similar to brain fog. Foggy thinking places us on an uncertain path. Clear thinking takes practice, discipline, self-confidence, purpose, and planning. And, the destination that awaits is far better than one that may or may not turn up by chance.

So, be affirmed in the practice of purposeful thought accompanied by immediate action. Do not permit distractions or emotional swamps to delay your success. No one said it was easy, but the journey is doable if you follow the correct road map.

Be Your Very Best Always,
Judy Williamson

The Law of Success

Get in the Habit of Thinking What You Want
by Napoleon Hill

I remember so well that when I started out with Andrew Carnegie, my greatest difficulty was forgetting that I was born in poverty and illiteracy and ignorance. It took me a long time to forget the little mountain hut in the mountains of Wise County, Virginia, where I was born. It was a long time before I could forget about it or get it out of my system. When I would start to interview an outstanding man, I’d always think, “Oh well, I’m so insignificant.” I guess I thought I ought to be ashamed and afraid because I remembered where I came from. I remembered my poverty. It was a long time before I could shake that poverty off. But I finally did it.

I began to think in terms of opulence. I began to say, “Why wouldn’t Mr. Edison want to see me, and why wouldn’t Mr. Wanamaker want to see me? I’m just as big in my field as he is in his.” I not only felt that, but I saw the day when I made it come true. It’s an achievement when you can reach out and influence the lives of millions of people all over the world. It’s an achievement that never would have happened if I hadn’t changed the thoughts of Napoleon Hill. My biggest job was not getting in to see the men of affairs and to get their collaboration. That was easy. My biggest job was to change the habits of thinking by Napoleon Hill.

Had I not changed those habits, the books I wrote that have inspired millions of people would never have had the effect that they had, because when an author writes a book or makes a speech, the exact mental attitude that he’s in when he’s writing or speaking is conveyed to his audience. Nothing could keep one’s audience from picking up his thoughts. You get an impression about that writer as you read their book. You couldn’t possibly read one of my books and not know I’m dealing with principles as fundamental as Infinite Intelligence itself. You don’t need anybody to prove it to you; you just know it. Before I could write those books, I had to completely build over my thought processes and my habits of thinking. I had to learn to keep my mind on the things that were positive, and keep it there constantly.

Your Right to be Rich

by Napoleon Hill

Dr. Napoleon Hill’s landmark book Think and Grow Rich does not restrict the concept of riches to such narrow parameters as fortune and fame. You have the right to be rich, and you deserve to be rich in every way—personally and spiritually—as well as financially. This seemingly simple idea spawned a philosophy about wealth and success that has permeated every generation since its inception.

Your Right to Be Rich gathers transcripts from the most vital and important speeches given by Napoleon Hill. Available in the past only as audio editions and sound-bite snippets, transcripts from these speeches will be presented in print for the first time here.

Think and Grow Rich

by Napoleon Hill

As Executive Director of the Napoleon Hill Foundation, I receive many requests from people wanting the original 1937 copy of Think and Grow Rich. To satisfy those of you who desire to have a 1937 unedited copy, we have reproduced Napoleon Hill’s personal copy of the first edition, printed in March of 1937. The book has the notation, “not to be loaned,” and signed: Annie Lou Hill (the wife of Dr. Hill). This personal copy of Dr. Hill’s was given to me by Dr. Charles W. Johnson, Chairman of the Napoleon Hill Foundation and a nephew of Napoleon Hill. It was Napoleon Hill who sent Dr. Johnson to medical school, and today he is a practicing cardiologist. Charlie refers to Napoleon Hill as “Uncle Nap” and will often makes the statement, “Uncle Nap would be proud of the Foundation today.” The original 1937 manuscript was written and edited with the assistance of Napoleon’s wife. In later years, the existing document was again edited by Dr. Hill. For example, the Foundation owns a 1958 edition that Hill edited personally. This did not lessen the book’s value in Hill’s judgment. Hill made the editing remarks in his own handwriting and the resulting 1960 edited edition has sold over 100 million copies making it the most read self-help book of all time
