Napoleon Hill Around the World

Although the Napoleon Hill Foundation has completed thousands of contracts since I became Executive Director nearly 17 years ago, I am always surprised at the world wide interest in Dr. Hill’s books.

Hill’s popularity is very simple, through a lifetime of interviewing, reading, and studying both successful and unsuccessful people, Hill found universal principles that are as true today as when Napoleon Hill first compiled the reasons why some people are successful and others are not.

Just released this month, is Napoleon Hill’s Greatest Speeches that includes the 1922 speech that Hill gave to the graduating class of Salem University that inspired the writing of the all-time best selling classic, Think and Grow Rich.

This speech is very historical because one of the 1922 graduates was Jennings Randolph, who was elected to the US Congress from West Virginia in 1932 when Franklin Delano Roosevelt began his first term in the midst of the Great Depression.

It was Jennings Randolph who wrote Napoleon Hill and told him that his speech at Salem University inspired him to devote his life to public service. He also told Hill that if he should ever put his inspirational words into a book, that he wanted the first copy.

Also, it was Jennings Randolph who introduced Napoleon Hill to President Roosevelt.

The new book, Napoleon Hill’s Greatest Speeches, also includes family letters, and other notable speeches that Napoleon Hill gave during his life. The book can be purchased from Amazon, and wherever books are sold. Please check Amazon and look at the first ratings. Your support is appreciated.

The best to you at whatever you do!

Vintage Essays By Judy Williamson, Director of the Napoleon Hill World Learning Center at Purdue University Calumnet

“I do not ask for any crown but that which all may win;
Nor to try to conquer any world, except the one within.
Be Thou my guide until I find, led by a tender hand,
The happy kingdom in myself and dare to take command.”

~ Louisa May Alcott

Dear Readers:

Sadness and happiness are two sides of the same coin. We hold both simultaneously in our hands and whether it’s heads or tails on the toss of life’s coin we must accept, for now, the results. Each of us processes through the seasons of life since we are all human and not one of us is exempt. That is the fact due to our mortality in the physical realm and something we should remember daily. Fear causes us to imagine the negative outcomes in life, while Faith shows us positive things that are and remain for us to experience.

Bob, my husband of almost 41 years, passed away on August 17. His recent illnesses endured for a few years and caused his death, but his spirit never gave up. At 65 years old, he was too young to die, yet his body could no longer sustain his life. Fear captures us in a stranglehold as death approaches, but afterwards Faith reveals that we are put here to live and to die only when our time comes. After all, each of us is given an eternity whether in this physical form or another, so what is there to fear in the end? Energy, our substance, is neither lost nor destroyed. Our loved ones remain in close contact, just not in the same way. Death is only the doorway to another dimension of experience.

In the weeks to come, I and my son and daughter expect to have little visits from Bob. The morning my husband was hospitalized, my 17 year old cat, Molé, died and one of the last things Bob and I did together was to bury our cherished pet. While in the hospital with our children, Tim and Cathleen, Molé visited them in ICU through an offhand message delivered by Bob’s nurse. Immediately, our children informed me what had happened and they witnessed Bob rolling his eyes in acknowledgement of the visit from our old cat.  No one else would recognize the sign, but my family did and said that it was undeniable.  I agree.

Both the best and the worst arrive together. I cannot thank friends and family enough for everything done this past week, and I will always cherish the memories and many kindnesses extended immediately afterwards, during the services, and even now. Those memories take a stronger foothold than the sad ones. When someone is born into eternal life we need to remember to rejoice because they have achieved a great spiritual reward. Bob is now in the “communion of saints” that we believe is part of the continuum of life that is forecast for all of us by our Creator. May he work for peace in this world as his next assignment.

Be Your Very Best Always,
Judy Williamson

The Law of Success

FAITH
by Napoleon Hill

Faith permits one to approach within communicating distance of Infinite Intelligence (or God, If you prefer that name). Fear holds one at arm’s length and makes communication impossible.

Faith creates an Abraham Lincoln; fear develops an Al Capone.

Faith evolves a great leader; fear creates a cringing follower.

Faith makes men honorable at trade; fear makes men dishonest and stealthy-minded.

Faith causes one to look for and to find the best there is in men; fear discovers only their shortcomings and deficiencies.

Faith unmistakably identified itself through the look in one’s eyes, the expression on one’s face, the tone of one’s voice, and the way one walks; fear identifies itself through the same avenues.

Faith attracts only that which is helpful and constructive; fear attracts only that which is destructive.

Right works through faith; wrong works through fear.

Anything that causes one to be afraid should have close examination.

Both faith and fear have a tendency to clothe themselves in physical realities, through the most practical and natural media available.

Faith constructs; fear tears down. The order never is reversed!

Faith and fear never fraternize. Both cannot occupy the mind at the same time. One or the other must, and always does, dominate.

Faith can lift an individual to great heights of achievement in any calling; fear can and does make achievement impossible in any calling.

Fear ushered in the worst panic the world has ever known; faith will usher it out again.

Faith is nature’s alchemy with which she mixes and blends the spiritual with the physical and mental forces.

Fear will no more mix with spiritual force than will oil with water.

Faith is every man’s privilege. When exercised, it removes most of the real and all of the imagined limitations with which man binds himself in his own mind.

The fact that most men of science are free from all forms of fear, while those who know but little or nothing of science and natural law are steeped in it, is most significant.

Think and Grow Rich

by Napoleon Hill

As Executive Director of the Napoleon Hill Foundation, I receive many requests from people wanting the original 1937 copy of Think and Grow Rich. To satisfy those of you who desire to have a 1937 unedited copy, we have reproduced Napoleon Hill’s personal copy of the first edition, printed in March of 1937. The book has the notation, “not to be loaned,” and signed: Annie Lou Hill (the wife of Dr. Hill). This personal copy of Dr. Hill’s was given to me by Dr. Charles W. Johnson, Chairman of the Napoleon Hill Foundation and a nephew of Napoleon Hill. It was Napoleon Hill who sent Dr. Johnson to medical school, and today he is a practicing cardiologist. Charlie refers to Napoleon Hill as “Uncle Nap” and will often makes the statement, “Uncle Nap would be proud of the Foundation today.” The original 1937 manuscript was written and edited with the assistance of Napoleon’s wife. In later years, the existing document was again edited by Dr. Hill. For example, the Foundation owns a 1958 edition that Hill edited personally. This did not lessen the book’s value in Hill’s judgment. Hill made the editing remarks in his own handwriting and the resulting 1960 edited edition has sold over 100 million copies making it the most read self-help book of all time
