It is because we sincerely feel that every reader of Think and Grow Rich should go on into this post graduate course, that we take the liberty here of giving a few brief side lights upon this brilliant work. Napoleon Hill’s Course presents the true Philosophy upon which all lasting success is built. Ideas, when translated into intelligent plans of action, are the beginning of all successful achievement. So this course proceeds to show you how to create practical ideas for every human need. It does it in easy-to-understand lessons. Napoleon Hill spent the better part of twenty-five years in perfecting this Philosophy of Success. During the long years he has worked on it, some parts or the whole of it, have been reviewed and praised by many of the greatest Americans of our times. Among them are included four Presidents of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Warren G. Harding, Wm. H. Taft; Thomas Edison, Luther Burbank, Wm. J. Wrigley, Alexander Graham Bell, Judge E. H. Gary, Cyrus H. K. Curtis, Edward Bok, E.M. Statler—dozens of glowing names in Politics, Finance, Education, and Invention.

Don’t waste your own precious years blindly searching for the hidden road to the heights. Profit by the dearly brought experience of America’s leaders. Over 500 great and prominent men of America were minutely analyzed—their methods, motives, strategy—to find out the secrets that put them on top. No matter whether you are rich or poor—you have one asset as great as the richest man living—and that is TIME. But with each setting sun you become one day older, and have one day less in which to attain the success and wealth you desire. Thousands of progressive people throughout the North American continent have realized this mighty truth, and have sought the help so clearly and inspiringly taught in Napoleon Hill. You cannot afford to let day after day slip into eternity, without getting possession of this course. You will profit greatly from the lessons in THINK AND GROW RICH. You will take even more brilliant and gratifying rewards from this course. The cost is trifling; the benefits are tremendous.

Vintage Essays By Judy Williamson, Director of the Napoleon Hill World Learning Center at Purdue University Calumnet

Dear Readers,

Many business relationships remain solely committed to business. However, over time, many business relationships turn into deep friendships that are very meaningful.

In the 1980s a gentleman from Japan came to the United States to visit W. Clement Stone, chairman of the Board of the Napoleon Hill Foundation. This Gentleman from Japan was Tanaka Taka-aki, Chief Executive Officer of SSI Corporation. Tanaka had been tremendously influenced by Napoleon Hill’s writings and credited much of his success to the principles expounded in Think and Grow Rich and other books by Napoleon Hill.

Tanaka’s goal in coming to the United States was simple—he wanted to make the principles of success readily available to the people in Japan. What began as a business relationship many years ago, had grown into a wonderful friendship with Tanaka and SSI. Today, SSI is the only officially authorized company in Japan to teach the Foundation’s PMA Course, and the only company that is authorized to publish Napoleon Hill’s books there.

The Board of Trustees for the Foundation accepted an invitation from Tanaka to travel to Japan and were welcomed by the most-gracious host of SSI officers and employees.

As a result of that business meeting many years ago between Tanaka, Mr. Stone, and Mike Ritt, hundreds of thousands of Japanese citizens have benefitted from the success principles.

The Foundation is proud of our relationship with SSI and we look forward to a great future with them.

I wish you the best in all that you do.

The Law of Success

by Napoleon Hill

The reality of a “sixth sense” has been fairly well established. This sixth sense is “Creative Imagination.” The faculty of creative imagination is one which the majority of people never use during an entire lifetime, and if used at all, it usually happens by mere accident. A relatively small number of people use, WITH DELIBERATION AND PURPOSE AFORETHOUGHT, the faculty of creative imagination. Those who use this faculty voluntarily, and with understanding of its functions, are GENII.

The faculty of creative imagination is the direct link between the finite mind of man and Infinite Intelligence. All so-called revelations, referred to in the realm of religion, and all discoveries of basic or new principles in the field of invention, take place through the faculty of creative imagination. When ideas or concepts flash into one’s mind, through what is popularly called a “hunch,” they come from one or more of the following sources:— 1. Infinite Intelligence 2. One’s subconscious mind, wherein is stored every sense impression and thought impulse which ever reached the brain through any of the five senses 3. From the mind of some other person who has just released the thought, or picture of the idea or concept, through conscious thought, or 4. From his subconscious storehouse.

There are no other KNOWN sources from which “inspired” ideas or “hunches” may be received.

The creative imagination functions best when the mind is vibrating (due to some form of mind stimulation) at an exceedingly high rate. That is, when the mind is functioning at a rate of vibration higher than that of ordinary, normal thought.

When brain action has been stimulated, through one or more of the ten mind stimulants, it has the effect of lifting the individual far above the horizon of ordinary thought, and permits him to envision distance, scope, and quality of THOUGHTS not available on the lower plane, such as that occupied while one is engaged in the solution of the problems of business and professional routine.

When lifted to this higher level of thought, through any form of mind stimulation, an individual occupies, relatively, the same position as one who has ascended in an airplane to a height from which he may see over and beyond the horizon line which limits his vision, while on the ground. Moreover, while on this higher level of thought, the individual is not hampered or bound by any of the stimuli which circumscribe and limit his vision while wrestling with the problems of gaining the three basic necessities of food, clothing, and shelter. He is in a world of thought in which the ORDINARY, work-a-day thoughts have been as effectively removed as are the hills and valleys and other limitations of physical vision, when he rises in an airplane.

While on this exalted plane of THOUGHT, the creative faculty of the mind is given freedom for action. The way has been cleared for the sixth sense to function, it becomes receptive to ideas which could not reach the individual under any other circumstances. The “sixth sense” is the faculty which marks the difference between a genius and an ordinary individual.

The creative faculty becomes more alert and receptive to vibrations, originating outside the individual’s subconscious mind, the more this faculty is used, and the more the individual relies upon it, and makes demands upon it for thought impulses. This faculty can be cultivated and developed only through use.

That which is known as one’s “conscience” operates entirely through the faculty of the sixth sense.

The great artists, writers, musicians, and poets become great, because they acquire the habit of relying upon the “still small voice” which speaks from within, through the faculty of creative imagination. It is a fact well known to people who have “keen” imaginations that their best ideas come through so called “hunches.”

Staying Close From Afar
by Jim Stovall

We live in a huge world that is shrinking in many ways. It is easier than ever before to stay in touch with those we are close to, and it is simpler than ever before to meet new people and grow close to them via technology. I have written several books with very talented friends and colleagues I have never met face to face. Young people have grown up with technology and will actually sit in the same room and text one another instead of speaking aloud. While this may seem absurd to their parents or grandparents, it is part of our modern reality.

There are many definitions of success and many elements of success that make up each definition. Anyone’s idea of personal success would have to include having quality, ongoing relationships with family and friends. Technology allows us to stay connected when we’re not in the same town, state, or even country. Personal connection does not require personal contact.

By virtue of the fact that you are reading these words in a newspaper, magazine, or online publication, you likely have two functioning eyes. Let us consider the relationship between your two eyes. Your eyes blink together, move together, they cry together, see things together, and they even sleep together, but they never see one another directly. Your eyes can help you to see the whole world, but without benefit of a mirror or similar tool, you cannot see your own eyes nor can they see one another. A modern-day friendship or family connection can be much the same.

Our ancestors who lived in distant lands had to depend on an archaic mail system that often took months or even a year or more to deliver one piece of correspondence to a loved one. While a phone call may not be as good as an in-person visit, and an email may not be as good as a phone call, and a text may not be as good as an email, it’s certainly better than nothing; and if it is heartfelt and meaningful, it can improve someone’s day and even their life.

I have friends around the world with whom I correspond regularly, and our original connection came through my weekly columns. Like most things in our lives that are valuable, you’ve got to do them on purpose and not leave them up to random whims. You wouldn’t go to a grocery store without a list of things you want to get lest you waste your time. How much more important is it that we not go through our lives without an ongoing list or calendar of people we want to stay in touch with and have as a part of our lives.

As you go through your day today, stay in touch, and you will give and receive one of life’s most precious gifts.

Today’s the day!

Jim Stovall

The Path to Personal Power

by Napoleon Hill

This true lost manuscript from the “grandfather of self-help,” Napoleon Hill provides timeless wisdom on how to attain a more successful and wealthy life using simple principles.

Napoleon Hill first wrote The Path to Personal Power in 1941, intending it as a handbook for people lifting themselves out of the Great Depression. But upon the bombing of Pearl Harbor and America’s entrance into World War II, these lessons were put aside and largely forgotten–until today.

Discovered in the archives of the Napoleon Hill Foundation, this never-before-published work is made up of three easily digested lessons, each its own chapter: Definiteness of Purpose; the Master Mind; and Going the Extra Mile.

This concise book is a powerful road map that leads to a single discovery–you already have the power to attain whatever wealth, success, and prosperity you desire in life. All you need to do is walk the path without straying, and the rest will follow.

Using these lessons, you have principles to live by that will help you stay on your own personal path to power, and achieve success that you never thought possible.
